Lamborghini has delayed its first-ever electric vehicle, the Lanzador EV. Reports had previously suggested that the company would launch its first EV before the end of this decade; however, its global debut is now expected to take place after 2030.

Lamborghini made the decision to delay its EV launch in light of the fact that the current demand for luxury electric vehicles remains quite limited. The brand is now shifting its focus back to vehicles that effectively meet customer expectations.

Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of Lamborghini, has confirmed the delay regarding the launch of their electric vehicle. He stated that the brand will wait for the market to be ready for high-performance electric vehicles before launching a full EV.

What are Lamborghini’s plans leading up to 2030?

Having delayed the launch of the Lanzador EV, Lamborghini is now planning to introduce the hybrid of the same, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It is set to be a two-door vehicle featuring a seating capacity for four; it is expected to be positioned within the brand’s lineup below the Lamborghini Urus.

The Lanzador Hybrid may borrow certain components from the Lamborghini Urus, maybe a twin-turbo V8 engine, in order to preserve Lamborghini’s signature performance character.

One of the reasons behind delaying the launch of the EV and shifting towards hybrids is the Lamborghini car engine sound, as recreating an engine sound in an electric vehicle, similar to that of an internal combustion engine vehicle, is a highly challenging task; however, with a hybrid, it can be done easily.

Will no other car arrive before 2030, apart from the Lanzdor Hybrid?

Discussions have been observed across various social media platforms suggesting that, due to the delay in its EV launch, Lamborghini intends to release only one vehicle, the Lanzador Hybrid before 2030. However, there is no truth to this claim; in fact, four additional models of the PHEVs are scheduled to be introduced before 2030.

What do we know so far about Lamborghini’s Lanzador hybrid?

While Lamborghini has not yet officially disclosed any details regarding the Lanzador Hybrid, we have shared below the expected details regarding its launch timeline and pricing, powertrain and performance, design and exterior, and interior and features.

  • Launch Timeline & Pricing: The global debut of the Lanzador being launched by Lamborghini is expected to take place in 2027, and it may become available for sale towards the end of that year. It is anticipated that its price will be around $400,000.
  • Powerstain & Performance: It is set to feature a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine paired with two or three electric motors, arriving in an all-wheel-drive configuration. Its maximum power output is expected to exceed 1,200 HP, with an anticipated acceleration time between 3 and 4 seconds and a top speed exceeding 300 km/h.
  • Design & Exterior: It will feature the aggression of a supercar, an SUV-like stance, and the practicality of a grand tourer; its front end will sport a sharp, angular nose design, along with signature Y-shaped LED lighting elements. It will be equipped with 23-inch wheels that will improve aerodynamics while simultaneously enhancing stability.
  • Interior & Features: Its interior is going to be heavily inspired by a fighter jet cockpit; it will feature a fully digital driver instrument cluster and a separate display for the front passenger. It will also include a flat-bottom steering wheel with a sporty design, as well as minimalistic geometric switchgear for a clean aesthetic.

As Lamborghini has delayed the Lanzador EV until 2030, we can expect its global debut to take place in 2031 or early 2032. Perhaps by then, the company will have developed a technology capable of generating a driving sound in an EV that mimics that of an ICE vehicle, thereby ensuring that the thrill of the Lamborghini supercar driving experience remains undiminished.
