The luxury EV that Tata Motors is set to launch in the Indian market is named the Avinya.ev. Although the company has not yet confirmed anything regarding its launch date, reports suggest that we may expect to see its debut by the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
Tata Motors is planning to establish a dedicated retail channel for this upcoming premium all-electric sport utility vehicle, through which it will be sold; currently, however, no details regarding this upcoming EV, nor its marketing strategy, have been publicly released.
With the launch of the Avinya EV, Tata Motors is set to bridge the gap between mass-market and luxury EV brands in the Indian market. It SUV will be based on JLR’s EMA, the same platform utilised in the next-generation Range Rover Evoque EV, Range Rover Velar EV, and the ‘Baby’ Land Rover Defender EV.
Exterior & Design
The exterior of the Avinya.ev is set to draw significant inspiration from the design of the Avinya X concept, which was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show. The key highlights for exterior and design are the following:
- It features a distinctive LED lighting signature, including sleek Matrix LED DRLs that form Tata’s signature ‘T’ motif to give it a unique look to make it recognisable even in crowded areas.
- It gets a coupe-crossover silhouette that adopts a low-slung and coupe-like profile; its flowing roofline lends its SUV stance with a sporty aesthetic, and its sharp aerodynamic lines provide a distinctly modern appeal.
- Its steeply raked windscreens give it a futuristic and dynamic look, while gloss black accents make it eye-catching and enhance its visual contrast.
- It comes with dual-tone alloy wheels that give a truly premium feel, and its contrasting C-pillar finish creates a ‘floating roof’ effect.
While the exact dimensions are not yet available, it is expected to have a length of around 4300 mm and a wheelbase of 2900 mm, with a ground clearance of around 190 mm to meet the Indian road conditions.
Interior & Design
The interior concept of the Avinya.ev is set to differ slightly from the original design, prioritising practicality for its occupants. Its cabin layout is spacious with a standard seating layout of five people. It can comfortably hold 5 adults, 2 in front and 3 in rear, with ample legroom and shoulder room.
It is all set to get a floating infotainment system same as showcased earlier in the Avinya X Concept; which further enhances the cabin’s aesthetics and gives a truly premium feel. The steering wheel features a two-spoke design with modern and futuristic styling.
The materials used for the seating are of premium quality and soft texture to ensure the best comfort for occupants even during long journeys and preventing any type of inconvenience or discomfort. The vehicle is equipped with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) capabilities.
Additionally, it will include a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags, Level 2 ADAS, and various other smart features designed to ensure both the safety and the comfort and convenience of the occupants throughout their journey.
Powertrain & Performance
It is set to come equipped with two motors, one powering the front wheels and the other the rear wheels. It means its drivetrain will feature an all-wheel-drive system, which Tata Motors has branded as ‘Quad-Wheel Drive’, and the transmission will be single-speed automatic.
No details regarding the battery pack capacity are currently available in the public domain. However, some reports suggest that it could be around 85 kWh, which will give an ARAI-certified range 720-750 km. The acceleration is expected to be quite brisk, clocking in at roughly 5 to 6 seconds.
