Toyota’s First EV for India: Urban Cruiser Ebella Launch Expected April With 500 KM Range

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is a mid-size all-electric SUV based on the Heartect-e skateboard platform; it was unveiled in India on January 20, 2026, during an event held in Mumbai. The production is currently underway at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s plant in Gujarat.

Its design is not only highly aerodynamic but also visually striking, which further enhances its road presence. It is set to arrive in the Indian market with two battery packs, featuring a host of smart and advanced features designed for safety, security, comfort, and convenience.

Toyota’s First EV For India 

The Urban Cruiser Ebella from Toyota Motors is going to be the first EV from the Japanese automakers in India. It is based on a 400-volt architecture, which supports quick DC charging. The launch is expected around April 2026, with ex-showroom prices starting from ₹17 lakh and going up to ₹21 lakh.

Powerstain & Performance 

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with a 49 kWh and 61 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery, which generates 142 bhp and 171.5 bhp power, respectively, and a torque of 189 Nm. It comes with one permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is mounted on the front wheels, i.e., it comes with a front-wheel drive configuration. 

It is likely that the real-world range on full charge is likely to be 450-500 km, depending on the battery pack. The acceleration timing and top speed will be made public with its launch, but it is expected that this electric vehicle will take around 8-9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and the top speed is anticipated to be around 150 km/h.

Like other electric vehicles, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is expected to be available with both AC charging and DC charging options, with a maximum of 11 kW and 100 kW, respectively. With the maximum DC charging capability, it is expected to take around 25 to 30 minutes for a 30-80% charge and 6-8 hours for a full charge with an AC charger.

Dimensions & Space

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is a five seater electric SUV with a length with height and width of 4285 mm, 1800 mm, 1640 mm and 2700 mm, respectively, which not only makes its road presence bold but also provides better luggage room and head room and enhances stability in high speed conditions.

It has a ground clearance of 180 mm which is convenient for Indian road conditions, which is enough to easily cross potholes and road breakers. Its boot space is expected to be around 310 litres which can easily carry two or three large luggages easily.

Design & Exterior 

The exterior of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella looks quite modern, thanks to its closed grille design. It features triangular LED headlamps, complete with pixel-style DRLs, along with gloss-black accents, slim air intakes, and a minimalist silver skid plate.

Flared wheel arches lend it a strong SUV stance, complemented by 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Although the character lines are relatively simple, they nonetheless contribute to a premium aesthetic; the vehicle is also available with dual-tone color options.

The rear styling features connected LED tail lamps and is notably flat and minimalist, incorporating a wide stance that adds a distinct, modern electric vehicle feel.

Interior & Features 

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella’s cabin is dual-toned in black and tan, with soft-touch materials added to give the interior a premium feel. The dashboard is clean and modern, with a dual-screen layout. Infotainment features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

For comfort and connectivity, it features automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and sliding and reclining rear seats. Features such as keyless entry and push-button start, along with tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, are also included. To provide a premium feel, it also boasts a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a wireless phone charging pad.

Safety & Security 

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is equipped with seven airbags, which play a crucial role in preventing loss of life during an accident. Safety and security features included in the vehicle comprise ABS, EBD, ESC, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters. 

The higher-end variants offer advanced features such as a 360° camera, electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, Hill Hold Assist, and an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System. Additionally, it features Level 2 ADAS, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and high beam assist.
