Volkswagen ID Polo EV Image Surfacing Online Before May 2026 Global Debut: Inspired by ID 2all Concept

The Volkswagen ID Polo EV is an all-electric hatchback scheduled to make its global debut in May 2026. Even before its official unveiling, images of its exterior have surfaced online. As Volkswagen currently does not have any EVs in India, it is expected that this model will be introduced in the Indian market soon.

It was first showcased at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, where it appeared heavily camouflaged. While nothing has been officially confirmed regarding its launch in India, it is expected to arrive in the Indian market in early 2027, with an estimated ex-showroom price ranging from ₹18 lakh to ₹25 lakh.

What design highlights emerge from the exterior images of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV?

The Volkswagen ID Polo EV appears to bear a strong resemblance to the ID 2all concept; it features a clean and modern EV aesthetic characterised by smooth surfaces, and visually, it looks even more premium and substantial compared to the previous Polo model.

  • Speaking of the front styling, we find slim LED headlights featuring a sharp, horizontal layout. Centred prominently is an illuminated, rounded VW logo, while the upper grille has been kept closed to enhance the EV aesthetic.
  • The side profile features clean body lines and flush door handles to ensure superior aerodynamics; notably, the rear door handles are mounted on the C-pillar. It is equipped with conventional ORVMs (outside rear-view mirrors) and sports stylish alloy wheels.
  • At the rear, a full-width LED light bar and an illuminated VW logo are centrally positioned, giving it an upright hatchback stance. A spoiler is mounted on the roof, and the design of the tailgate is quite minimalist.

The image of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV surfacing online depicts the GTI sports variant, featuring a honeycomb front grille; a red stripe, complete with GTI badging; vertical DRLs; and sportier styling.

What do we know about the powertrain and performance of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV?

The Volkswagen ID Polo EV is based on the MEB+ platform and comes with a single-motor front-wheel drive option. It will come with two battery packs: a 38 kWh (LFP) battery and a 56 kWh (NMC) battery, which will offer a WLTP range of 300 km and 451 km, respectively.

With a 38 kWh LFP battery, it will generate between 116 hp and 135 hp of power along with 290 Nm of torque; with a 58 kWh NMC battery, it will produce 211 hp to 226 hp (GTI variant) of power and 190 Nm of torque.

The acceleration timing and top speed of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV have not yet been revealed; however, the sportier GTI variant is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7–8 seconds and likely to reach the maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The maximum DC charging power for the 38 kWh battery and 58 kWh battery is 90 kW and 125 kW, respectively; this will take 23 to 27 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. The AC charging capacity is likely to be up to 11 kW, which will take 7 to 9 hours.

What are the measurements of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV?

The length of 4053 mm is greater compared to the standard Polo; furthermore, its width of 1816 mm and wheelbase of 2600 mm contribute to providing superior stability at high speeds, while also offering enhanced legroom and a spacious cabin feel.

Additionally, thanks to its height of 1530 mm, all occupants enjoy ample headroom, ensuring a comfortable experience, particularly during hot weather. Its ground clearance has not been disclosed, but it is expected to be around 160 mm, which is ideal for easily navigating over speed breakers and rough roads.

The boot space will be 430 litres, which can easily accommodate three large pieces of luggage. It will come with a seating capacity of five; if the second row is folded down, the cargo space can be expanded to 1,243 litres, which will easily carry 9-10 pieces of luggage.

How’s the Volkswagen ID Polo EV interior, and what are its features?

The interior of the Volkswagen ID Polo EV gives a premium-like feeling as it is equipped with high-tech features and soft-touch materials. It comes with a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a retro display mode, physical buttons, a rotary dial for volume and media, and a steering wheel with physical controls.
