Freelander, created through the Chery and Jaguar Land Rover joint venture, has officially started presale for the Freelander 8, a large extended-range electric sport utility vehicle, on August 14, 2026. It is available with seating layouts for both five and six individuals in 2-3 and 2-2-2 configurations, respectively.
The presale amount of the Freelander 8 EREV SUV varies depending on the variant. It is available for presale in five variants, which are Large Five-Seater, Pro Edition, Max Edition, Max+ Edition, and First Edition. Notably, the first and last ones are five-seater, and the others are six-seaters.
The large five-seater’s price is 339,900 (50,080 USD), and the First Edition, available in just 1,000 units, has a regular price of 459,900 (67,740 USD), but as a promotional offer, it is now available with a 10,000 yuan (1,480 USD) discount, just at the price of 449,900 (66,260 USD).
The presale prices for Pro, Max, and Max+ are 349,900 yuan (51,500 USD), 379,900 yuan (55,900 USD), and 429,900 yuan (63,200 USD). Reportedly, most buyers are showing interest in buying the First Edition variant; it is most likely that the booking slots for the same will end very soon.
Besides the first edition that is available with a promotional discount, four other variants have also received the pre-order, but in very few numbers. The carmaker is yet to reveal how many bookings they have received since the start of presale. They may disclose that detail in the near future.
Auto enthusiasts not only in China but also across the globe are waiting for its launch. Since its appearance in the China MIIT filing catalogue release, many details about this EREV have emerged. Notably, they already have released the exterior and interior images revealing the features it gets.

Its market launch in China is anticipated in September 2026. The joint venture hasn’t yet confirmed any date officially, but it may happen around then, next month’s second week. The launch price may be slightly lower than the pre-sale; it is yet to be seen whether they do so or not.
After the China launch, the Freelander 8 will go on sale in the European market in the second half of 2027. Dimensionally, it is 5,118 mm longer, 2,050 mm wider, and 1,898 mm taller with the wheelbase of 3,040 mm. Three exteriors are now confirmed, which are Thermal Lemon Gold, Streaming Silver, and Twilight Purple.

Equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, which works with roof-mounted Huawei 896-channel LiDAR and rear dToF solid-state LiDAR getting powered by the 320 TOPS computing power Snapdragon 8397 automotive chip featuring navigation-assisted driving and advanced driving assistance.
Also features the Huawei-assisted i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System to enhance driving on different driving modes by recognizing terrain and adjusting driving strategies, rear-wheel steering to reduce turning radius and help with smooth parking, and dual-chamber air suspension with continuously variable damping to ensure a smooth driving experience.
Under the hood, a 105 kW (143 hp) 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol-powered internal combustion engine. An electric motor is on each axle for the electric AWD drivetrain. The combined power output is 610 kW (818 hp), which makes 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds. Get a 60.3 kWh CATL ternary-lithium battery pack, which helps it run up to 310 km under CLTC conditions.

Inside the cabin, it has a 46.3-inch 8K far-end display spanning the dashboard area and a 15.6-inch Mini LED screen at the center of the dashboard. To enhance the cabin’s aesthetic, it features 256-color dual-aperture floating ambient lighting. Other notable features are small fold-out tables for the second row and a 10-liter refrigerator with heating and cooling features.
