The BEML (Bharat Earth Mover Limited) unveiled the first indigenous 35-tonne electric dump truck on April 10, 2026, at Mysore. It happens in the presence of the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Shantanu Roy; Director (Mining & Construction); SBU Heads; Shri Sanjay Som; and other officials.
It’s a great achievement for the company; the truck is designed for mining and heavy-duty operations. Now, it is set to deliver high productivity without any carbon emission, as it meets the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) commitment. Here, we have discussed all we know so far.
Equipped With PMSM
The electric truck, developed by the BEML, is equipped with multiple permanent magnet synchronous motors that move its wheels. Its motors get power from the battery, which is chargeable with a fast DC charger. The truck’s payload capacity is 35 tonnes, and the gross vehicle weight is 60 tonnene.
Being an all-electric indigenous dump truck, it delivers an energy efficiency of up to 90% compared to diesel-powered trucks. It also comes with a regenerative braking system, which changes the brake force into charge, further improving its efficiency.
It comes with a high-power 300 kWh lithium-ion battery, which supports a battery thermal management system. The BTMS features liquid cooling to ensure that the truck doesn’t get heated too much; it also extends the battery life and ensures safety by preventing thermal runaway.
Is Cost Efficient
The indigenous 35-ton Electric Dump Truck from BEML, not only gives environmental advantages, it is very cost efficient. It saves upto 70% in energy cost and reduces the operation cost by 40-60%.
Not only this, its maintenance requirement is even a little, and for its operation, the need for the mechanical components is also very low. Its payback period is one to two years depending on the operation intensity.
Supports Fast Charging
All the electrical items used in the indigenous all-electric truck are IP67/IP68-rated to ensure that it stays reliable and safe even in harsh operating conditions, and it also supports fire protection mechanisms to ensure safety.
The company also provides a scalable charging structure, which supports fast charging, which charges it from 0 to 80% with a time duration of 60-90 minutes, to ensure that operation doesn’t go on for long hours.
To Be Sold Through Tenders & Contracts
The BEML has developed the indigenous 35-ton Electric Dump Truck to promote use of clean-energy and future-technology for heavy industrial use. Its primary users are going to be Mining Companies, Infrastructure & Construction Firms, Public Sector Undertakings and Quarry & Cement Industry.
It will be sold through tenders and contracts, and its users will be able to buy it in units or bulk depending on need. The cost will include the price of the truck, service charges and charging infrastructure setup fee. Nothing about its price is available in the public domain.
