The Chery Jaecoo J7, a plug-in hybrid vehicle, has been spotted undisguised without any camouflage in India during its transportation on a carrier. Its sibling J5, an electric vehicle, has already been spied testing on public roads multiple times, and its launch is expected soon; maybe shortly after it we get to see also the J7’s introduction to the Indian market.

The J5’s India launch is all set to happen under the banner of JSW Motors, so now it is certain that the J7 will also be introduced in the same way. Reports say that the PHEV’s launch may happen in early 2027 with the ex-showroom price of ₹35 lakh and ₹40 lakh. In the Indian market, its main competitors may be the Mahindra XEV 9S and the Tata Harrier EV.

Gets Flush-Type Door Handles 

The J7 has the design language of an urban off-road SUV; it is a mix of rugged styling and urban look. It features a vertical grille, sleek LED headlamps and an upright nose, giving it a dominant and premium appearance. On the sides, it gets flush-type door handles to improve aerodynamics, which help with better efficiency. It will also get its futuristic look.

The mirrors are mounted with a pillar, instead of a door; it improves visibility and ensures safety. It adds a premium design detail to the SUV. It runs on 19-inch alloy wheels which feature an aero-optimised design; it not only enhances the SUV’s stance but also helps with better road grip for stability. The rear features LED tail lamps and a clean tailgate.

Features Head-Up Display 

The cabin is equipped with high-tech and smart features. It is most likely to get a 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and an eight-speaker Sony sound system. It also includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that shows all the driving data, and there’s also a head-up display which projects the driving details while driving on the windscreen.

For convenience, it gets a voice control system, a wireless phone charging pad, Bluetooth, and smartphone connectivity; for comfort purposes, it includes dual-zone automatic climate control, 2nd-row AC vents, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a cooled storage compartment, and an N95 air purifier; and for safety, it gets ADAS.

Comes With 424L Boot Space 

The length of 4,500 mm, width of 1,865 mm and height of 1,680 mm make the J7 a compact crossover SUV with a seating capacity of 5 people with a layout of 2-3 with a spacious cabin. The wheelbase stands at 2,672 mm, which improves its stability during high speeds and also gives ample legroom for all.

Its ground clearance is 200 mm, quite good for Indian road conditions, and can easily navigate through the potholes and speed breakers. As a five-seater it features a boot space of 424 liters, capable of easily carrying 4 luggages, which can be expanded up to 1,349 liters by folding down the rear seats.

Runs 106 KM On Battery 

The J7 comes with a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine, whose power output is 141 bhp and torque is 215Nm, an electric motor with power of 141 bhp and torque of 215 Nm, and a 618.5 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. Its drivetrain is front-wheel drive, and features Dedicated Hybrid Transmission gearbox. 

As it is a PHEV, it supports DC charger upto 40 KW that charge the vehicle from 30-80% within the time duration of 20 minutes. With 3.3kW and 6.6kW AC charger it takes 8 hours and 3 hours 2 minutes for a full charge. The electric range of 106 km and combined range is 1200 km on the NEDC cycle.
