Tata Motors launched the Nexon EV, an all-electric subcompact crossover, in the Indian market back in January 2020, and it got a facelift in September 2023. Buyers often choose it as an ideal EV option in the segment, but soon it faces a tough competitor from a Chinese automaker, Chery.
Chery, which is one of the leading Chinese automakers, has collaborated with JSW, an Indian automaker, to launch their models in India under the banner of JSW. One of the EVs that is set to be introduced in India is the Omoda e5; its price in China ranges from ¥92,900 to ¥126,900, which translates to ₹12.6 lakh to ₹17.3 lakh in India.
The Omoda e5 will be manufactured, so it is certain that in the India market they will introduce it with similar pricing. The Nexon EV is available in the Indian market with the ex-showroom price range from ₹12.49 lakh to ₹17.49 lakh; the launch of the Omoda e5 is all set to give it tough competition.
Large Alloy Wheels
Up front, it features a closed-off grill to give it a modern electric vehicle look. Sleek LED headlights are added for better visibility during the dark. It gets T-shaped daylight running lights (DRLs) and a modernist and sculpted bumper, giving it a bold road presence.
On the side, it features a sloping roofline, strong character lines, 19-inch alloy wheels and a floating roof effect, and its rear features full-width LED tail lamps in a 3D effect; its tailgate design is quite sharp, and it has an integrated spoiler that gives a dynamic look.

Premium Sound System
The cabin gets two 12.3-inch digital touch screens for infotainment and the digital instrument cluster; all systems of the interior are controlled through the touch; there are very few physical buttons. The seating is made up of leather, which ensures better comfort and an upscale feel compared to fabric seats.
The front-end seats are set to be electronically adjustable with heating and ventilation functions so the driver can find a comfortable driving position for smooth driving. Some other features are a wireless phone charging pad, multi-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a Sony 8-speaker sound system, and others.
To make the driving convenient and ensure safety, it gets a 360° camera, six airbags, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems featuring Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, etc.

Increased Ground Clearance
The dimensions in terms of length are 4424 mm, width is 1830 mm and height is 1588 mm, giving ample headroom and shoulder room for all occupants. The wheelbase is 2630 mm, improves stability during driving and gives good legroom for rear-seating passengers.
The ground clearance is expected to be 180 mm, slightly higher compared to the one available for the Chinese market, to make it ideal for Indian road conditions so it can tackle the rough terrain, potholes and speed breakers.
It comes with a seating capacity of 5 people, two in the front row and three in the rear. Thanks to its spacious cabin, five adults can easily sit comfortably for a long distance without any inconvenience. The boot space is 380 litres, good enough to carry 3 big pieces of luggage.

61 kWh LPF Battery
It is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor at the front axle, featuring a front-wheel drive drivetrain, which is considered good for city driving. Its transmission is a single-speed automatic that gives a linear driving experience.
It comes with a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which generates the power of 201 bhp and torque of 340 Nm. Its WLTP range is 430 km, acceleration timing 0-100 km/h is 7.6 seconds and top speed is 180 km/h.
It supports 80 kW DC; with maximum charging capacity, it can charge from 30% to 80% within the time duration of 30 minutes. It does support AC chargers up to 11 kWh, with a possible capacity; it takes 8 hours for a full charge.
