The all-new BMW i3 electric vehicle launched in two variants with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain, two different NMC battery packs, and premium comfort and convenience features.
The 2026 BMW i3 is an all-electric sedan that is built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform. It was revealed on September 30, 2026. For the German market, the prices are announced officially. Two variants are on sale; they are 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive with the prices of €59,900 and €65,900, respectively. The M60 xDrive variant price is still pending because the carmaker will launch the model in 2027.
The dimensions in terms of length, width and height are 4,760 mm, 1,870 mm, and 1,480 mm, respectively, with the wheelbase 2,900 mm. For clarity, the new one is 749 mm longer with 327 mm more wheelbase. There are changes also in width and height; the former one is now decreased by 90 mm, and the latter increased by 97 mm.
Upfront, it has BMW‘s new “four-eyed” face giving a fresh look and slim LED headlights giving the better road illumination during the night that seems visually integrated with the kidney grille. The main highlights of the sides are short overhangs, flush-type door handles, and up to 21-inch alloy wheels. Its rear gets horizontally positioned taillights with the BMW logo on the tailgate.
The lowered body and streamlined shape enhance its aerodynamics that help with better energy efficiency. The two variants that the company has launched get two electric motors; the front one is induction, and the rear is permanent magnet synchronous. Their electrical architecture is 800 volts; since one motor is available on each axle, it features an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
The manufacturer says that the front and rear motors deliver 195 kW and 123 kW, respectively. The combined power output is 275 kW; even its peak torque is revealed. Combinedly, they put out 520 Nm. Crucial performance figures, i.e., 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing and top speed, are also revealed officially for the 50 xDrive.
The top-end variant takes 5.4 seconds for a sprint up to 100 kmph from 0 and can reach the maximum speed of 200 kmph. The carmaker has already revealed that the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive are equipped with 82.8 kWh and 108.7 kWh NMC battery packs, giving 710 km and 912 km, respectively. Notably, the former one supports a DC charger up to 300 kW, but the latter does 400 kW.
To charge the battery pack from 10 to 80 per cent, it takes 21 minutes. AC charger support up to 22 kW is available for both variants. With the vehicle, the buyers will get an 11 kW AC charger, but the option of 22 kW is available as an option. Depending on the various factors such as speed, weather, temperature, driving style, and others, the rear-wheel range will vary for both variants.
This vehicle is also available with Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home, and Vehicle-to-Grid. The first one is offered with 3.7 kW output, and the last two with 11 kW. It is full of smart features and technology. BMW Panoramic iDrive is available on the base on the front windscreen, showing all driving data, and there’s a 17.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard.
Its cockpit runs on BMW Operating System X, supporting customisable displays and widgets, personalised menus, regular software updates, BMW Maps, and digital services. The centrally mounted screen also features BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant that can easily operate climate control, windows, seats, phone calls, and others.
To ensure comfort seating for all, the carmaker has introduced this vehicle with the heated, ventilated and powered seats in the first row with memory function. It is also equipped with two-zone automatic climate control that helps in setting different temperatures inside the cabin for co-passenger and driver.
With the 2026 BMW i3 launch, the carmaker has further strengthened its positioning in the luxury five-seater sedan segment. The all-new model from BMW is an ideal option for the buyers who want a German-engineered electric car with excellent performance, decent range, and fast charging.
