BYD Reveals 2026 Seagull With LiDAR Tech, 100 km More Range & Interior Enhancements

BYD introduced the Seagull, a five-door all-electric hatchback, back in 2023 on April 23. Now they have revealed its 2026 model at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show with many meaningful upgrades, also known as the Dolphin Mini and Dolphin Surf in some international markets.

Launch & Price

The Chinese automaker will soon introduce the 2026 Seagull to the domestic market; the most expected date for its launch is the second quarter of 2026. Firstly, the BYD will start the presale, and then within a month the launch will happen and delivery will begin.

Because of its upgrades, it is certain that the vehicle will cost higher than the outgoing model. The one that is available for sale costs 69,800-85,800 CNY (10,200-12,550 USD), and the new one may be available with the price of 80,000-95,000 CNY (11,700-13,900 USD).

Dimensions & Space

The 2026 Seagull measures 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width, 1,540 mm in height, and 2,500 mm in wheelbase; these measurements are the same as the outgoing one, meaning there’s no change in its size. It comes with the same seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3.

The boot space is 230 liters and can be used to carry 2 big pieces of luggage. Interestingly, the rear seats are foldable, which can increase the cargo up to 930 liters. No changes even in the ground clearance; it measures the same 150 mm but is good enough to tackle potholes and speed breakers.

Exterior & Design

2026 BYD Seagull

The 2026 Seagull has been introduced with a new color option that is red; with the new addition, now it is available in six colors. The other five are pink, blue, white, black, and grey.

Up front it gets angular LED headlamps, a closed-off grille, and a lower bumper, the same as the outgoing model, but new additions to its front are a LiDAR sensor on the roof and dual windshield wipers.

On the sides, the vehicle features blackened pillars, a rising beltline, short overhangs, and a tall roofline, the same as the existing one, but the new one gets sixteen-inch alloy wheels for better efficiency and road grip.

At the back, the car gets a clean and minimalistic tailgate, sleek tail lamps, a subtle roof spoiler, and a sculpted bumper, which is also visible in old ones, but the new one gets a new blue light element that highlights it as ADAS.

Interior & Technology

2026 BYD Seagull Interior

The 2026 Seagull interior is equipped with a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen at the center as an infotainment system and a capacity fully digital instrument cluster behind the three-spoke steering wheel that shows all the driving data and four airbags to ensure the safety of occupants during the collision, the same as the outgoing model of the vehicle.

Recently revealed comes with physical buttons on the steering wheel for practicality; a smart driving paddle like the gear shift paddle in sports cars; fifty-watt wireless phone charging with the cooling vents to protect against overheating; a single cup holder for a clean dashboard; and a flip-top armrest box that provides hidden storage that can be used to keep small items.

To make the driving semi-autonomous, it comes with BYD’s ‘God’s Eye B’ advanced driving assistance system that works with roof-mounted LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors; it has some unique features that include lane assist, adaptive driving support, and parking assistance.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2026 Seagull gets a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that is mounted with the front axle, whose transmission is single-speed automatic and drivetrain is front-wheel drive, same as the outgoing model of the vehicle.

The upgrade is that its large battery pack gives a range of 505 km on CLTC conditions with a full charge, meaning now it comes with 100 km more range, meaning a longer drive is possible with the car.

With the large battery, now the motor’s power output is 60kW (80 hp). The new battery pack, acceleration timing, top speed, DC charger capacity, and timings are yet to be revealed; they may be disclosed with the start of pre-sales or around the launch.

It is yet to be seen that the automakers still continue with the 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh battery packs that are available in the outgoing model; or only goes with the one that is yet to be revealed.
