Dongfeng ePai M8 Revealed: BEV & EREV Six-Seater Due in Q3 2026 From 180,000 Yuan

Dongfeng has released an official image of the ePai M8, revealing its exterior. Upfront, it gets full-width LED daylight running lights at the upper edge of the front nose, and main headlights are placed below them in a rectangular shape; the lighting setup gives it a modern look, and a horizontal air intake grille is placed at the bumper bottom for cooling.

On the sides, it gets semi-flush type door handles to reduce drag and improve efficiency; it also reflects the vehicle’s premium large multi-spoke disc-style silver alloy wheels ensure better road grip and also improve efficiency; and body-coloured powered ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) help in seeing the vehicle behind. 

At the rear, a full-width LED taillight is visible, creating a wide stance and mirroring the front-end lighting signature; features a flat and minimalist tailgate design making it uncluttered; gets a roof-mounted spoiler that helps better airflow and stabilizes the car at the top speed; and has the logo of ‘Dongfeng Motor’ above the tailgate bar, reflecting the brand identity.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s filing release on May 10, 2026, has already received many specifications and features of the car. Notably, it measures 5,020 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width and 1,733 mm in height. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, is 3,025 mm, near to its competitors Li Auto L8 and AITO M8.

Set to be introduced with a seating capacity of 6 people in a layout of 2-2-2, all seats are offered in a traditional configuration except the second row’s. The seat in the second row features a captain seat with a separate armrest. Behind the third-row seat, a large boot space is certain, which will help carry big luggage. Notably, it will be expandable by folding.

The launch will happen in both extended-range electric and all-electric powertrains. The EREV gets a 95 kW 1.5 L turbocharged petrol engine with a 215 kW motor on the rear axle, giving an all-electric CLTC range of 330 km; and the BEV features a 230 kW motor on the rear axle whose CLTC range is 660 km and supports 4C charging with 800 V electrical architecture. Both are set to be offered with a RWD drivetrain. 

Reportedly, it is set to be equipped with the Huawei Qiankun intelligent automotive solutions that include a HarmonyOS cockpit with a large touchscreen with a smooth user interface and Huawei Qiankun ADS (advanced driving system) 5.0 Pro with LiDAR (light detection and ranging) unit support navigation autopilot for both city/urban driving and highway.

Other details are still pending; they will emerge in due course. Reportedly, it will make its public debut in late May 2026, and the launch will happen in the third quarter of 2026. They will announce the price of the car with the launch; it is expected that it will be available for sale with the price ranging from 180,000 yuan to 250,000 yuan (₹21 lakh to ₹29 lakh).

In the Chinese market, under the ePai line-up, Dongfeng has introduced two models, as of now. These are ePai 007 and ePai 008, both introduced back in 2024. They are available as EV and EREV. In 2024, a total of 26,105 and 11,108 units of 007 and 008 were sold, respectively; the number increased to 22,279 for 007 and 24,533 for 008 in 2025. 

Following the launch of this model in the line-up, i.e., the ePai M8, the company’s overall sales are expected to grow exponentially as the company expects that the upcoming six-seater will make a large number of sales; however, it remains to be seen if it happens or not.
