The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 07 is an all-electric sedan that is co-developed by Volkswagen Anhui and XPENG for the Chinese market. It is available in two variants, whose top end is Pure PS. It is available for sale in China with a price of 139,900 CNY (28,500 CAD). Here, we have come with its comparison with the China-built Tesla Model 3’s standard RWD variant, which costs 39,490 CAD. Let’s have a closer look at the side-by-side comparison.
Space & Dimensions
The length, width, and height of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 07 is 4,853 mm, 1,852 mm, and 1,566 mm, respectively, but the Tesla Model 3 is 133 mm longer, 81 mm narrower, and 125 mm taller. The wheelbase of the former one is 2,875 mm, and the latter is 2,826 mm, meaning the Tesla’s sedan provides better legroom for rear seating passengers with the long wheelbase.
Both come with a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3. Tesla’s all-electric sedan features a boot space of 594 liters and also a front storage trunk of 88 liters, which helps in carrying big luggage and small items, respectively. Compared to Volkswagen’s vehicle, it has 117 liters of small cargo capacity, and notably, it doesn’t have any frunk.

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 07 is equipped with a 60 kilowatt-hour (kWh) Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, but the Tesla Model 3 has 77.8 kWh, meaning the latter one has a large battery. When the battery is fully charged, the ID. The Unyx 07 runs up to 558 km in CLTC conditions, while the Model 3 gives a range of only 463 km on the WLTP cycle.
At first sight, it seems that the VW’s sedan has more despite having the small battery compared to Tesla’s, but in actuality, its WLTP range translates to 460 km, meaning both have a near similar range. Notably, the Volkswagen’s sedan supports a DC charger up to 100 kW, which takes 45 minutes for 10-80% charging, and the Tesla’s car takes 30 minutes, but it supports a DC charger up to 350 kW.
Powertrain & Performance

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 07 and the Tesla Model 3, both are equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) on the rear axle featuring a rear-wheel drive (RWD) drivetrain, and they use the same single-speed automatic transmission. The power maximum output and peak torque of the former one are 194 kW and 240 Nm, respectively, but the latter has 170 hp and 310 Nm.
The acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h in the Volkswagen’s sedan is 7.7 seconds, but the Tesla takes only 6.2 seconds, and the maximum speed of the ID. The Unyx 07 is only 160 km/h, but the Model 3 goes up to 201 km/h. Comparatively, in terms of 0-100 km/h sprints and top speed, the Tesla Model 3 wins, as it can accelerate 1.5 seconds quicker and run 41 km/h faster.
