On May 26, 2026, the Chinese automaker Build Your Dream (BYD) officially unveiled the made-for-Europe plug-in hybrid hatchback, the BYD Dolphin G DM-i. With the breaking of the cover, it has revealed all about its exterior and design. Let’s look closer at its design and find out how this EV actually looks at first sight.
Exterior & Design
Looking from the front, we get to see a closed-off grille, which has now become traditional in EVs, as they don’t need too much air for cooling. It has triangular-shaped headlights, which include both main LED headlamps and 7-shaped daylight running lights. In the front end’s below section, it gets active air intake, which automatically opens and closes, and the bumper gets two airflows.
On the side, it gets the body-colored wheel arches with large alloy wheels in the modern mesh design, dual-tone outside rearview mirrors with side indicators, and blackout window trims that enhance the in-profile view. The door handles are kept flush-type to ensure smooth surfaces so drag is reduced and results in better aerodynamics.
Notably, among the official images of the BYD Dolphin G DM-i, there’s not a single image that shows the rear. One side image shows the end of through-type zigzag, full-width LED taillights in the center, which we discussed when it was spotted in China. Other highlights from the rear are roof-integrated spoilers, which help in keeping the car stable at high speed, and a clean tailgate design for an uncluttered view.
Size & Comparison

The carmaker has also revealed its size in terms of length and width; reportedly, it is 4,160 mm longer and 1,825 mm wider. Following the launch, it is highly anticipated to compete with other electrified vehicles in the European market, such as the MG4 Electric, the Peugeot e-208, and the Renault 4 E-Tech. Notably, they are 127 mm shorter, 105 mm longer, and 17 mm shorter, respectively.
Launch & Price
Reportedly, Build Your Dream will launch the BYD Dolphin G DM-i, a plug-in hybrid electric hatchback, at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is slated to take place from July 9 to July 12, 2026, at Goodwood House in West Sussex, United Kingdom. The price will be revealed with the launch; however, it is expected to be around £20,000, which translates to $27,000.
Key Specification

As of now, only its exterior and size are revealed; all other specifications and features will emerge in due course. CarNewsChina reports that the BYD Dolphin G DM-i is to borrow the powertrain from its sibling, the BYD Atto 2 (Yuan Up) DM-i, which gets a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol internal combustion engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor under the hood and on the front axle, respectively.
The maximum power output of ICE is 72 kW, and PMSM does 145 kW; combined, they generate a peak power of 156 kW. To power the motor, the BYD Atto 2 (Yuan Up) DM-i gets two battery packs that are 7.8 kWh and 18 kWh, whose emission-free, i.e., pure-electric, WLTP ranges are 40 km and 90 km, respectively. Notably, the carmaker itself has confirmed it will have a combined range of 1,000 km.
Interior Features
The BYD Dolphin G DM-i is set to be introduced as a five-seater in a 2-3 layout, featuring a boot space that is capable of carrying 2-3 big pieces of luggage easily. The dashboard will be equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay at the center and a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, which features physical buttons for shortcuts.
Other expected features inside the cabin are a multi-speaker sound system, a wireless charging pad at the front row, electrically adjustable front seats with memory, heating, ventilation, and massage functions, USB ports in both rows, ambient lighting across the dashboard, rear AC vents, multiple storage compartments, and much more for comfort and convenience.
