BYD 8 Series Tang Officially Revealed: New Electric SUV Promises 800 km Range

Build Your Dreams has officially revealed the production design of the 8 Series Tang, a new mid-to-large electric SUV, in the Dynasty lineup on July 17, 2026. Reportedly, the manufacturer will introduce the model to the Chinese market in the second half of 2026, but the most expected date for the launch is October or November.

Lu Tian, General Manager of the BYD Dynasty Series, has officially released the image on the Weibo account revealing the exterior design. Upfront, it has a full-width LED daylight running light, slim LED headlights below the DRL strip on the sides, lowered active air intakes, side vertical air curtains, and a roof-mounted LIDAR sensor.

On the sides, it features A-pillar-mounted double-channel outside rear-view mirrors with integrated blinkers, flared wheel arches, roof rails, flush-type door handles, and black-outed A, B, and C pillars; and the rear boasts a roof-integrated spoiler, a through-type full-width LED taillight, bumper-integrated side reflectors in a vertical shape, and the BYD logo at the center of the tailgate.

Its length, width, and height are 5,045 mm, 1,980 mm, and 1,760 mm, respectively. Its wheelbase is 2,950 mm, and its front and rear track is 1,700 mm. Reportedly, it will be available as a 5-seater in a 2-3 layout and a 7-seater 2-3-2. The approach and departure angles are 18 degrees and 21 degrees.

The 8 Series Tang from BYD gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor, TZ205QYD, on the rear axle with single-speed automatic transmission. It generates the maximum power of 300 kW (402 hp). Since the PMSM is mounted on the front axle featuring FWD. The top speed is 250 km/h. 

Equipped with a next-generation Blade lithium-ion battery pack, the capacity is still pending, but reports suggest that when it is fully charged, it can run up to 800 kilometers on CLTC conditions. Anticipated to support ultra-fast DC charging, which takes 5 minutes to charge 10 to 70 percent.

It features DiSus-A, Build Your Dreams’ intelligent air suspension system, which uses electronically controlled air springs, adaptive dampers, sensors, and software to automatically adjust the ride height and suspension stiffness in real time and improve comfort, handling, and stability.

BYD will soon reveal all pending details. Reportedly, the cabin is set to get a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, which also features an augmented reality head-up display projecting all driving-related information on the windshield so the driver doesn’t have to look below on the dashboard, which often removes eyes from the road, and sometimes it turns into a tragic incident.

The center of the dashboard is certain to have a large touchscreen infotainment system, which will support over-the-air software updates with more than a hundred connected car technologies, wireless multi-device connectivity, and an AI-based assistant for voice assistance. The infotainment system is anticipated to be integrated with a multiple-speaker premium sound system.

On the center console, it is set to have two wireless phone charging pads for phone charging convenience. The front seats are anticipated to be ventilated, heated, and powered and also support massage functions. Double-zone automatic climate control, multiple-color ambient lighting, multiple USB charging ports across the rows, and powered windows and a panoramic sunroof are also expected.

As of now, there’s no word for price. Reportedly, the 8 Series Tang is positioned above the Tang L and below the flagship 9 Series Da Tang. The former one is available for sale with the price between 239,800 yuan and 289,800 yuan, and the latter between 239,900 and 329,900 yuan. So, we are expecting that the upcoming one may cost around 280,000 yuan and 320,000 yuan.
