2027 BMW iX5 Revealed: 460kW Fast Charging, 4.6-second 0-100, Deliveries from early 2027

On June 30, 2026, Bayerische Motoren Werke revealed the fifth-gen BMW iX5, an all-electric luxury SUV, and confirmed that its production is all set to start in August 2026 at BMW‘s Spartanburg, South Carolina, plant. They will start taking orders for the model from September 2026 and start delivery in the United States in early 2027. 

Prices are officially out. The German luxury automobile manufacturer is all set to introduce the 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive to the US market with the price of $81,250, which translates to ₹77.17 lakh. Following the launch, this electric car will compete with the Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Cayenne Electric, and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

The dimensions in terms of length, width, and height are 4,994 mm, 2,000 mm, and 1,748 mm, respectively. Its wheelbase is 3,035 mm, ground clearance is 226 mm, the frunk is 53 liters, boot space is 655 liters that is expandable up to 1,850 liters, seating capacity is 5 in layout of 2-3, turning circle is 12.3 meters, and wheel size options in inches are 20, 21, 22, and 23 mm.

Upfront, it gets a sculpted bonnet with a BMW logo to reflect the brand identity; double X-shaped headlights that house daylight running lights, high beams, and low beams; and also side indicators. Illuminated kidney grilles add modernness to its front-end look and lower air intakes with active air flaps to improve aerodynamics.

On the sides, it boasts door handles on the B-pillar and C-pillar for the front and rear gate to ensure better aerodynamics; aero-optimized alloy wheels; pronounced squared wheel arches to make its profile view aesthetic; front door-mounted double-toned outside rear-view mirrors in an aerodynamic shape to improve efficiency; and roof rails.

At the rear, it features the BMW emblem on the tailgate in the center that connects the horizontal-shaped taillights; a roof-mounted spoiler is visible just above the windshield to enhance stability at high speeds; and a bumper-integrated side reflector so when the vehicle is parked at nighttime on the roadside, it remains visible to other road users.

Inside, it comes with the BMW Panoramic Vision full-width windshield display that shows the driving data. The center of the dashboard gets a 17.9-inch touchscreen for infotainment that runs on BMW Operating System X, supporting OTA software updates, natural voice control with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 14.6-inch front passenger display and Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system with Dolby Atmos are available as optional. Front seats come with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. It also features multi-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting with customizable themes, a panoramic glass roof, and a digital key.

Adaptive air suspension also helps with better driving comfort for all types of terrain, as it is capable of continuously monitoring the road conditions and adjusting suspension stiffness, and it can also raise ride height (ground clearance) if needed, and rear-wheel steering turns the rear wheel slightly opposite of the front when running at the lower speed to ensure the vehicle turns smoothly.

Built on CLAR-WE (Cluster Architecture – Wide Electric) featuring an 800-volt electrical system. It gets an AC induction motor on the front axle and an externally excited synchronous motor on the rear with single-speed automatic transmission, featuring the xDrive all-wheel drive drivetrain. The combined power output of both electric motors is 425 kW, and torque is 805 Nm.

Equipped with a 144 kWh cylindrical lithium-ion battery pack, usable up to 141 kW, beneath the floor. When the battery pack is fully charged, it can run up to 845 km under the WLTP condition. Its 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing is 4.6 seconds, and can touch the maximum speed of 210 kmph. It supports DC chargers up to 460 kW, which can charge 10-80% in 23 minutes.
