August 2026 will see the global debut of the Genesis GV90, the flagship all-electric luxury sport utility vehicle, as the Genesis Europe managing director, Peter Kronschnabl, has formally confirmed it. The unveiling is anticipated to take place at Monterey Car Week, which is scheduled to run from August 7 to 16, 2026.
Genesis, the luxury vehicle brand of the South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group, may launch it in the domestic market in late 2026 as a rival of the Lucid Gravity, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Volvo EX90, and Range Rover Electric.
After the South Korean market launch, the model will come to the internal market, including North America and Europe, in early 2027. In the brand’s electric vehicle lineup, the Genesis GV90 is set to be positioned above the Genesis G80, meaning it will be the most costly EV from the brand.
The launch of the upcoming one will add the fourth vehicle to the lineup after the GV60, GV70, and G80. Reports suggest that the production of the vehicle will start in September 2026 at Hyundai Motor Group’s Ulsan EV plant in South Korea and, within a few weeks, may see its market launch.
This upcoming EV from Genesis has been spotted testing on the road multiple times, and its image is available on the internet. Notably, every single GV90 has been spotted testing wearing camouflage to hide the design before the official unveiling. After the multiple sightings, many details have emerged about its exterior design.
The spy shots have confirmed that the carmaker has made this electric vehicle by taking strong design inspiration from the Genesis Neolun concept, a full-size electric luxury SUV concept, which they unveiled in March 2024, such as rear-hinged coach doors and a boxy and upright SUV silhouette.
The headlights and taillights are still under the camouflage, but it seems they are set to be the same as the concept. Even though the front-end styling matches the concept design, including lower air intakes and a closed-off front grill.
Zooming in on the spy shots image, we found that even its pronounced wheel arches were the concept. Other details on the exterior that matched with the concept version are silvered pillars and running boards. On the rear mule we get ten-spoke alloy wheels instead of pie-shaped ones and an A-pillar mounted outside the rear-view mirror, replacing the camera.
Its cabin is expected to be similar to the concept model. Inside, it may get a horizontal-shaped steering wheel and a large touchscreen infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard. The concept does not show any digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, but reports suggest that there may be a slim one, and an AR head-up display is also anticipated to project driving data on the windscreen.
The concept has 180-degree rotatable seating, so it may continue with the production model. A report from Carscoops claims that its cabin will borrow many features from the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9. The report even suggests that it will use a 110 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and features two electric motors, one on each axle.
As the Genesis GV90 is expected to get two electric motors, it will feature an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. Notably, it is built on Hyundai Motor Group IMA (Integrated Modular Architecture) with 800V high-voltage architecture supporting ultra-fast DC charging.
As of now, there is no update on its price; we are expecting it to cost above US$120,000, which translates to ₹1.15 crore. We will get to know the actual price following the market launch in the United States, whose date is yet to be confirmed.
