The joint venture between SAIC Motor and Volkswagen Group, SAIC-Volkswagen, officially confirmed on Friday, August 7, 2026, that they will start the pre-sale for the SAIC-Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S, a plug-in hybrid electric sedan, on August 11, 2026, for the Chinese market. During the pre-sale, drivers who are interested in buying will be able to register their interest.
The joint venture will start the pre-sale, announcing the tentative price, within a month after the beginning of the pre-order; the market launch will take place. Its core specifications were exposed via the China MIIT filing catalogue release for the vehicle in May 2026, as many details about this upcoming pure electric sedan have emerged.
Under the hood, it has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol-powered internal combustion engine, whose power output is 80 kW (109 hp). Also get an electric motor, which delivers the power of 130 kW (177 hp). It isn’t confirmed that the electric motor is available in the front axle or rear; we are expecting it to be mated with an ICE featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Equipped with a Rept Battero Energy Co., Ltd.-manufactured lithium-ion battery pack under the floor, whose capacity is still pending. Its emission-free WLTC range is 120 km; when the battery depletes, it runs on fuel with an economy of 2.82 liters per 100 km, giving a range of 1,880 km. Its combined range, when the battery pack is fully charged and the tank is full, can run up to 2,000 km.

They haven’t yet revealed the fuel tank, but we can know it by multiplying fuel economy with range and dividing by 100; doing so, we get 53.016 liters. As it also consumes a little fuel in EV mode, we are expecting its fuel tank capacity to be 55 liters. Its curb weight is 1,655 kg, and its maximum speed is 165 km/h. Other dimensions are as follows:
- Length: 4,836 mm (190.4 inches)
- Width: 1,880 mm (74.0 inches)
- Height: 1,505 mm (59.3 inches)
- Wheelbase: 2,766 mm (108.9 inches)
As per the joint venture, it is to be the first model under the banner of SAIC-Volkswagen, which comes with navigation autopilot for both highway cruising and city driving, thanks to the Xingyun Zhixing advanced driver-assistance system. This ADAS also features automated parking, valet parking, remote parking, and enhanced parking practicality.
They have already released the exterior and interior images, which reveal that it gets full-width LED DRLs with a VW logo at the center; bumper-integrated LED headlamps, including low-beam and high-beam; double-toned ORVMs; semi-hidden flush-type handles for doors; a full-width connecting LED taillight with a VW logo similar to the front-end lighting signature; and black bumper cladding.

Inside, it has a two-spoke double D-shape steering wheel with physical buttons. It has a Volkswagen logo for branding. Under the steering wheel, a slim digital instrument cluster is visible to show driving-related information. The center console has a floating, horizontally oriented touchscreen infotainment system that will act as a control panel of the cabin.

The cabin is available with two double-toned interior themes, which are Floating Light and Fleeting Shadow. Other notable features inside the cabin are ambient light that goes through the door card and dashboard and a gear selector on the steering wheel column. The center console available between the co-passenger and driver seats has:
- Two wireless phone charging pads to charge the phone without plugging in,
- Two cupholders to place the coffee/tea mug or water bottles inside it,
- A hidden storage compartment to keep the essentials, and
- Hazard light button to activate the hazard warning flashers to alert other road users in case of sudden braking.
