The Chery iCaur V27, a five-seater extended-range electric vehicle, was spotted testing in Malaysia on public roads, hinting at a launch very soon. The spy shots reveal that it is the same right-hand drive model, which was shown at the 2026 Being Auto Show, because they both have the same alloy wheel design.
The Chinese carmaker will introduce the model as a locally assembled vehicle because they are going to import it from China as a completely knocked-down (CKD) vehicle and assemble it at Chery’s new Lembah Beringin plant to sell locally at competitive prices and give tough competition to its rivals.
Single- & Double-Motor EREV
In Malaysia, the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery will introduce the iCaur V27 five-seater EREV with both drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD. The rear-wheel-drive trim gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine and one electric motor on the rear axle, whose maximum power output is 185 kW (252 PS) and peak torque is 300 Nm.
Notably, the all-wheel-drive option gets the same ICE as the RWD and two electric motors, one on each axle; they combinedly deliver 335 kW (455 PS) power and 505 Nm torque. Both variants have a primary motor on the rear axle, which moves the wheels; it is mated with a single-speed automatic transmission.
EV & Combined Range
The iCaur V27’s internal combustion engine acts as a generator to power the battery pack and motor when the battery pack is depleted. They both are equipped with the 34.31 kWh LFP battery pack, but the pure-electric range for the RWD variant is 210 km under CLTC conditions, but the AWD has 10 km less range than the single-motor variant.
Both drivetrain options come with the same 60-liter fuel tank; the pure-petrol range for the single-motor variant is 990 km, and the same for the double-motor setup is 1,030 km. The combined range for rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants is 1,200 km and 1,230 km, respectively, on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle.
Supports DC charging for charging the battery pack mounted beneath the floor; the maximum charging output it can support is 100 kW. It takes 17 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging. It comes with an onboarded 6.6 kWh AC charger, which takes 5.2 hours for the full charge.
Dimensions & Space
The length, width, and height of the iCaur V27 are 5,045 mm, 1,976 mm, and 1,894 mm, respectively. Features a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. For clarity, its distance between the axles is the same as the Ford Everest but 70 mm shorter than the 2nd-Gen Hyundai Palisade and 50 mm and 155 mm longer than the GWM Tank 500 and Toyota Fortuner, respectively.
Its wading depth is 600 mm, approach angle is 24°, and departure is 23°. The single-motor variant is set to make its debut with 19-inch wheels with 255/55 tires and 21-inch wheels with 265/46 tires.
It has a ground clearance of 224 mm, an ideal distance of the lower body of the vehicle from the road for an off-roader, which helps it to easily pass the rough terrain. As a five-seater, it gets 715 liters of boot space behind the second row, which is expandable up to 1,818 liters, enabling carrying the big luggage conventionally.
Launch & Price
There’s no confirmed date for the iCaur V27 launch in Malaysia, but it may happen around late 2026. Even its price is uncertain. As it is positioned against the GWM Tank 500 that is available for sale with the starting price of RM327,660 (US$80,100), we are expecting that the upcoming Chery EREV will cost around RM300,000 (US$73,300).
