Freelander, developed by the Chery and Jaguar Land Rover joint venture, has confirmed that they will launch the Freelander 8, a luxury extended-range electric SUV, on September 3, 2026, for the Chinese market. Its launch will take place in three different variants that are Pro, Max, and Max+. The pre-sale for this car is already taking place, which is all set to last until a day before the launch.
The extended-range electric SUV from the Freelander is the first model from the brand. The carmaker has confirmed that shortly after its launch in the Chinese market, they will introduce the model to overseas countries, including the Middle East and Europe. The carmaker says that after starting presales for the model, they got more than 10,000 orders within 2 days, showing a clear indication that buyers in China are accepting it as an off-roader.

Regarding this electrified SUV, many details have already emerged. Its length, width, and height are 5,118 mm, 2,050 mm, and 1,898 mm, respectively, with the wheelbase of 3,040 mm. Two different seating configurations are set to be introduced, which are a five-seater in a 2-3 layout and a six-seater in a 2-2-2 arrangement.
This SUV has a boxy design with off-road proportions, giving it a tougher look and making it appealing to drivers looking for off-roaders that have long range and smart features. The five seats have two individuals in the first and three in a bench-like structure in the second row, and six seats have two individuals in the first, two separate caption chairs in the second, and two joints in the third row.
The cabin has a 46.3-inch 8K panoramic display on the base of the windshield, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard, a 17.3-inch roof-mounted rear entertainment display, and 256-color ambient lighting. Its front seat comes with heating, ventilation, and massage functions; these features are available for the second-row seat for the six-seater variant.
Its roof has an 896-channel LiDAR that is clearly visible from the front; it is part of Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving assistance, which works with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive chip. It also features an i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, ±10° rear-wheel steering, a closed-system dual-chamber air suspension, and a mechanical front differential lock.
As an EREV, it has a 1.5-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol-powered internal combustion with 45.79% thermal efficiency and two electric motors, one on each axle. The combined power output is 610 kW (818 hp), and the peak torque is 813 Nm. Its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration timing is 4.6 seconds. The electric motor mounted on the rear axle is a two-speed automatic transmission.
