BYD August 2026 Sales: 440,293 NEVs Sold Globally, Up 17.84% YoY

Build Your Dreams has finally released the August 2026 sales figures; they have sold a total of 440,293 new energy vehicles globally, including passenger and commercial. Of the total NEV sales, 433,384 were for passenger and 6,909 for commercial. On a year-on-year (YoY) and month-on-month (MoM) basis, the total sales have increased by 17.84% and 5.03%, respectively. Let’s have a closer look at the BYD August 2026 deliveries.

The sales number in August 2026 for BYD passenger NEVs is 433,384; compared to the previous month, the sales have increased by 22,312 units, i.e., 5.43%, but relative to the same month of previous years, the delivery numbers have increased by 61,883 units, i.e., 16.66%. Commercial NEV delivery numbers are only 6,909; its sales on a YOY and MOM basis have increased by 4,784 units with 225.13% and 1,230 units with 15.11%, respectively. 

They sold two powertrain-type vehicles; they are plug-in hybrid electric and battery electric. Their sales number in the passenger NEV segment has been made public; of the total 433,384 sales, 177,154 are for plug-in hybrid electric and 256,230 for the battery electric. On a YoY basis, the sales for PHEVs increased by 5,238 with 3.05%, and the same for BEVs increased by 56,645 with 28.38%; on an MoM basis, the PHEV sales decreased by 813 with -0.46%, but the BEV sales increased by 23,125 with 9.92%.

BYD’s August 2026 NEV sales in terms of domestic and overseas are also available in the public domain; of total sales, 189,466 are overseas with a 43.03% share, and 250,827 are domestic with a 56.97% share. Overseas sales on YoY have improved by 108,653 with 134.45%, and domestic declined by 41,986 with -14.34%; but on the MoM basis, the domestic and overseas sales have increased by 12,154 units with 5.09% and 8,928 with 4.95%, respectively.

In 2026, between January and August, a total of 2,668,015 units have been delivered, including 210,051 in January, 190,190 in February, 300,222 in March, 321,123 in April, 383,453 in May, 403,472 in June, 419,211 in July, and 440,293 in August. Compared to the previous timeline, the same has decreased by 6.84%. Out of the total cumulative sales of 2026, overseas sales are 1,162,260 with 85.72% YoY growth, and domestic sales are 1,505,755 with 32.72% YoY degrowth. 

The passenger and commercial sales from January to August 2026 are 2,621,831 and 46,184, respectively; on a year-on-year basis, the sales for passenger vehicles have decreased by 203,971 units with -7.22%, and the same for commercial increased by 8,110 units with 21.30%. Out of total passenger NEVs, 1,356,814 for BEVs and 1,265,017 for PHEVs, their sales on a year-on-year basis have declined by 44,039 units with -3.14% and 159,932 units with -11.22%, respectively.
