Freelander 8 Extended-Range SUV Launched with Huawei ADS, LiDAR and 800V Charging

Freelander 8 launched with the starting price of 309,900 yuan (46,120 USD), giving the EV-mode range up to 310 km, available in two different seating layouts, with a form with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain, and equipped with smart and advanced features.

The brand, Freelander, jointly created by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, launched the Freelander 8 on September 3, 2026, with the extended-range electric powertrain. This car comes with seating capacity of 5 and 6 people and a decent cargo capacity for enhancing the luggage carrying practicality.

Freelander has launched this car in a total of six variants; 3 are available as 5-seaters, and the other 3 are as six-seaters. The price for each trim varies from one another. Refer to the table below to check the same for every single variant.

The company says that within the launch of 12 hours, they have received 5,000 firm orders, showing clear signs that drivers are preferring it over the rivals. Its delivery isn’t yet confirmed; reports suggest it will happen in the very near future.

Technology and features.

This vehicle comes with the Huawei Qiankun ADS intelligent driving system with 896-line roof-mounted LiDAR and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade chip and features Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) functionality to make the driving stress-free. 

Its cabin has a 46.3-inch panoramic 8K display on the base on the windshield that displays the driving data and also helps other functions. The horizontally oriented touchscreen is placed at the center of the dashboard, which measures 15.6 inches and acts as an infotainment system.

For rear seating passengers’ entertainment, there’s also a 17.3-inch screen that is mounted with the ceiling. To enhance the cabin’s aesthetic, it has 256-colour ambient lighting. The center console gets two cupholders and two wireless phone charging pads to enhance practicality.

The one available with a seating capacity of 6 people has two captain chairs in the second row with a 18-point massage function. All the seats in the 5-seaters and 6-seaters are ventilated and heated. The second row gets a 10-liter refrigerator with heating and cooling features, and there is a foldable table that helps with working and eating.

Dimensions and design.

The length, width, and height of the Freelander 8 are 5,118 mm with a 3,040 mm wheelbase, 2,050 mm, and 1,898 mm, respectively, giving it boxy and full-size SUV proportions. Outside, it has interlocking LED headlights, a double-peak bonnet design, a Freelander letter on the front closed-off grill and tailgate, and sits on up to 22-inch alloy wheels that are bracketed by round thick black wheel arch cladding.

This car has a castle-style body design with the yacht-inspired waistline, semi-hidden door handles for enhanced efficiency with reduced aerodynamic drag, a side step for easier ingress and egress, square ORVMs integrating a side indicator on the A-pillar, a large rear spoiler integrated with the roof, and horizontal-shaped LED taillamps.

Powertrain and performance.

This car has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, one on each axle, and a 60.3 kWh ternary lithium battery. The engine delivers 115 kW power; the front motor generates 360 kW, and the rear produces 250 kW; and the combined power output is 610 kW, which makes 0 to 100 kmph acceleration possible in 4.6 seconds, and the top speed is 220 kmph.

The rear motor is mated with two speed reducers; peak torque is 813 Nm, and maximum wheel-end torque is up to 8,000 Nm. It also has a fuel tank of 60 liters. It has an emission-free range of 310 km in CLTC condition (254 km in WLTP condition), this vehicle’s electrical architecture is 800 volts, and it supports a 6c DC charger that takes only 12 minutes for 20 to 80 percent charging. 

Safety features.

The Freelander 8 features blind-spot monitoring that warns the driver through an indicator in the side mirror and prevents accidents during the lane change, and advanced terrain recognition through the i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System helps with adapting to different driving surfaces and conditions that help with optimizing vehicle settings for the different driving modes.
