Smart Just Launched Its First-Ever Sedan: Meet the #6 EHD

The joint venture of Geely and Mercedes-Benz, Smart, has finally launched the Smart #6 EHD, a plug-in hybrid electric mid-size fastback sedan, in the Chinese market in three variants with the price ranging from 177,900 to 229,900 yuan, which translates to 25.3 to 32.2 lakh rupees. Its main competitors in China are the Tesla Model 3, NIO ET5, and Avatr 06.

Outside, slim LED headlights ensure better visibility; full-width PixelTalk Interactive Lighting with 4,508 micro-dots gives a futuristic touch; the bionic shark nose front fascia ensures better aerodynamics; the slim bumper-integrated air intake keeps the engine and battery pack cool; and the sculpted front bumper adds sportiness to the front-end look.

The exterior also features roof-mounted LiDAR, a large panoramic sunroof, powered double-toned outside rear-view mirrors with integrated indicators, flush-type door handles, large alloy wheels, through-type full-width LED taillights with 6,158 micro-dots, an electrically adjustable spoiler, a large rear windshield, and a diffuser-style rear bumper.

Available with five exterior color options that are moon porcelain white, particle white, spacetime blue, pulse yellow, and matte grey. Dimensionally, it is 4,906 mm longer, 1,922 mm wider, and 1,508 mm taller. Comes with 5 people seating capacity in a 2-3 layout; thanks to a wheelbase of 2,926 mm, all three rear-seating passengers get ample legroom.

Behind the rear seat, it gets a 525-liter capacity that helps in carrying up to 3 big pieces of luggage. Folding the second row increases the boot space to 1,315 liters, which makes carrying multiple big pieces of luggage convenient when only two people are traveling. The interior is available with color options that are grid yellow, shadow black, and wild brown.

Inside, it gets nappa leather upholstery to ensure better comfort for all occupants. The dashboard is equipped with two 13-inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) touchscreens, the first one in the center of the dashboard that acts as an infotainment system and another before the co-passenger seat as an entertainment display.

Features a striped-tone three-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons for shortcuts and controls, under which there’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that shows all the driving data. It also features a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display that projects primary data on the windshield.

The AMD V2000 chip powers the entire cockpit, supporting wireless connectivity for three different operating systems, including Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS. It also features the Doubao AI large language model voice assistant that does all the touch-based settings and functions via natural voice commands.

The infotainment and entertainment screen is integrated with a 20-speaker Sennheiser audio system to ensure an immersive experience inside the cabin, and the central console gets two wireless phone charging pads for the convenience of the driver and co-passenger and two cup holders for practicality.

Other notable features are 256-color ambient light with 25 lighting zones, which not only adds premiumness to the cabin but also enhances mood during nighttime driving, and aircraft-turbine-inspired 7-layer 3D structure designed AC vents, which add uniqueness and also keep the occupants cool in extremely hot weather.

Get a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder IC engine under the hood and a PMSM on the front axle, featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain; they are mated with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Notably, the internal combustion engine delivers the power of 120 kW (161 hp), and the permanent magnet synchronous motor produces 200 kW (268 hp).

The combined power output of its engine and motor is 320 kW (429 hp), which helps it accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and can reach the maximum speed of 200 km/h. Offered with two different LFP battery packs that are 20 kWh and 41 kWh. The former one’s pure-electric CLTC-range range is 135 km, and the latter’s is 185 km.
