2026 BYD Seagull Interior Revealed Ahead of Launch: Bigger, More Powerful EV Hatchback

2026 BYD Seagull Interior Revealed Ahead of Launch: Bigger, More Powerful EV Hatchback

In July 2026, the upcoming all-new BYD Seagull pure-electric hatchback appeared in the China MIIT listing, revealing the design and core specifications. In the international market, it is also known by the other names such as BYD Dolphin Mini, BYD Dolphin Surf, and BYD Atto 1. Now, its interior has been spied, which shows what its cabin gets.

The existing model sold globally debuted on April 18, 2023, at the Shanghai Auto Show; after that, the market launch in China happened on the 26th of the month. Almost 3.5 years later, the next generation of this electric hatchback is coming with many upgrades and improvements inside and out and also with core specification updates.

Interior spied

The spied images show that the cabin has a large, sloped touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard. The center console gets air conditioning vents in a horizontal shape just below the centrally mounted screen; after that, it has a block of physical buttons, then a wireless phone charging pad, and lastly two cup holders.

New BYD Seagull Cabin exposed

Before the driving seat, it has a D-shaped, two-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons and the BYD logo to reflect branding. The image of the test mules does not show any screen behind the steering wheel, but a slim, horizontal-shaped, fully digital instrument cluster underneath is certain to be showing all the driving data.

Exterior exposed

Images from the China MIIT filing catalogue release have already revealed its exterior design. Outside, it has integrated LED headlights with a signature sharp and angular shape. Features a sculpted bonnet, BYD lettering below the hood, and lower air intakes with side air curtains.

The sides have a double-toned outside rearview mirror on the A-pillar with slim horizontal LED headlights, semi-hidden flush-type door handles, lower-body black cladding, flared wheel arches, and blacked-out pillars.

New BYD Seagull rear design

The rear has a roof-integrated spoiler and a large windscreen area. Just below the windshield, it has a modern, horizontal-shaped LED taillight. Its bumper integrates nameplate housing, a slim, horizontal-shaped reflector, and a body-colored skid plate.

Dimensions revealed

The length, width, and height of the upcoming Seagull are 4,205 mm, 1,810 mm, and 1,570 mm, respectively, with the wheelbase being 2,650 mm. Compared to the outgoing model, the upcoming one is 425 mm longer, 95 mm wider, and 30 mm taller with a 150 mm longer wheelbase, which makes the cabin more spacious.

The upcoming one has a seating capacity of 5 people, meaning with the new Seagull, one more adult can comfortably travel. Behind the second row, it is set to have larger boot space than before, as the existing one has a cargo capacity of 230 liters; we are anticipating around 400 liters for the upcoming one. It still sits on 16-inch alloy wheels but with 205/60R16 tires.

Motor setup disclosed

The China MIIT filing catalogue release has confirmed that the next-generation Seagull all-electric hatchback has a new permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, which delivers the power of 95 kW (127 hp). Since the e-motor is set to be present on the front axle, it will feature a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.

Compared to the first-generation version, the upcoming one delivers 45 kW (53 hp) more power, so we are expecting that to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h; it will significantly take less time. They already have revealed the all-new model is 20 kmph faster than before, meaning the new-generation model can reach the 150 kmph maximum speed.

Battery pack pending

The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will reveal the battery pack details soon. The filing has already confirmed that it gets an LFP battery pack from Shaoxing FinDreams Battery. The outgoing is available with 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh lithium-ion battery packs, giving 305 km and 405 km, respectively, under the CLTC conditions.

The next-generation Seagull is anticipated to be available with two battery LFP packs between 45 kWh and 55 kWh, giving it a 450 km to 550 km CLTC range. It is certain that the all-new one is also based on 400-volt electrical architecture supporting fast DC charging. The charging output and timings are still pending; they will reveal them with launch.
