Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ Debuts July 23: 3.8-Second Sprint, 100 km EV Range

Mercedes-AMG, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz, is all set to launch the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+, a plug-in hybrid electric sedan, on July 23, 2026, most likely as a CBU. It gets an M256M 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine under the hood, whose maximum speed output is 449 hp (330 kW) and peak torque is 560 Nm. 

Additionally, it features a Permanently Excited Synchronous Motor between the ICE and AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed automatic, which delivers up to 163 hp (120 kW) power and a maximum of 480 Nm torque. Its drivetrain is AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. Support seven driving modes: they are Electric, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Battery Hold, Individual, and RACE START.

The combined power output and peak torque are 585 hp (430 kW) and 750 Nm, respectively. But with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package with RACE START, it can put out up to 612 hp (450 kW). The lithium-ion gross battery pack is 28.6 kWh, but the usable is 21.2 kWh. When the battery pack is fully charged, it gives the emission-free ARAI-certified range up to 100 km, and the top electric-only speed is 140 km/h.

Support DC chargers up to 60 kW, which take 20 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging. It comes with a standard 11 kW AC charger; it takes 2 hours 45 minutes for full charging. Its 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing is 3.8 seconds with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, and its top speed is 250 kmph, but with the AMG Driver’s Package, it can reach the maximum speed of 280 kmph.

Built on the Modular Rear Architecture II platform, whose front suspension is four-link independent with AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive dampers and rear is multi-link independent with AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive dampers. Also features rear-wheel steering, which turns the rear wheel opposite to the front when running at low speed to reduce turning radius and make parking convenient in the compact area and provides better stability at high speed.

The front wheel features ventilated and perforated disc brakes with 6-piston fixed calipers, and the rear has ventilated disc brakes with 1-piston floating calipers. Other braking-related features are anti-locking braking system, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, and electronic stability program. Instead of a traditional handbrake, it comes with an EPB that can be activated using the ‘P’ button available on the center console.

The length is 4,961 mm; the width is 1,903 mm without the mirror and 2,065 mm with the mirror; and the height is 1,472 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,961 mm, front track is 1,634 mm, rear track is 1,648 mm, kerb weight is 2,380 kg, and turning radius is 10.8 meters. Available with a seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout, whose boot space is 370 liters. Comes with standard 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, and 20-inch and 21-inch options are set to be available as options.

Inside, it gets a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel and a 14.4-inch MBUX touchscreen at the center of the dashboard as infotainment. Also features a 12.3-inch MBUX Superscreen before the co-passenger seat as an entertainment display. Features heated and ventilated front seats with Nappa leather upholstery for better comfort for occupants.

Other notable features are 64-color ambient lighting, illuminated AMG door sills, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free powered tailgate, a wireless phone charging pad, split-folding rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable front seats with a memory function, and multiple USB-C charging ports across the cabin.

The ex-showroom price is still pending; the carmaker will reveal it during the seventh launch. Reportedly, it will cost between ₹1.40 crore and ₹1.45 crore. Following the launch in the Indian market, it will compete with the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, the Audi RS 5 Sportback, and the BMW M5.
