Sky Nomad N90: Xiaomi's First Full-Size EREV SUV Spotted

Sky Nomad, Xiaomi‘s new SUV-focused automotive sub-brand, will launch a full-size extended-range electric sport utility vehicle in the Chinese market. Recently, the same has been spotted testing on public roads. In images shared online, the vehicle is highly camouflaged.

By analysing the image closely, CarNewsChina found that this upcoming extended-range electric vehicle is set to be known by the name of “Sky Nomad N90” because they found the lettering of ‘N90’ on the rear part of the vehicle’s body. However, the carmaker is yet to announce the production name.

In the domestic market, the Sky Nomad is known by the name of Xun Tian, which translates to “looking for the sky”. The upcoming full-size SUV from Xiaomi’s sub-brand is expected to come with the same design language, giving it a modern touch with body silhouette.

Despite being highly camouflaged, the image reveals a few details about it. On its roof, there’s a built-in tent with a mosquito net which seems to be foldable. Looking from the front end, a roof-mounted LiDAR unit is visible, which reflects that the vehicle is equipped with an intelligent driving assistant system.

Other details that we get to know from the spy shots are that it sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, features decent ground clearance to easily pass potholes and speed breakers, gets flush-type door handles to reduce drag and improve efficiency, and has a rear spoiler integrating with braking light to keep the vehicle stable even at high speed.

Dimensions are still pending; seeing the vehicle in the image, it seems that its length is around 5.3 metres with a wheelbase of 3.1 metres. May come with both a seating capacity of 5 people and 7 people in a layout of 2-3 and 2-2-3, respectively. If they introduce the 7-seater, it will feature two captain’s seats with separate armrest in the middle row.

The interior is anticipated to get a large touchscreen infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard and a ceiling-mounted rear passenger entertainment screen; they will run on a smooth operation system getting power from a high-processing chipset, featuring OTA software updates, connected car technology, and wireless connectivity.

Under the hood, it is expected to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine that will act as a generator to generate electricity to power the electric motors when the battery is depleted, which moves the wheels. It may get a lithium-ion battery pack of around 70 kWh, which may give the emission-free range around 500 km.

Reportedly, it will get two electric motors, one on each axle, featuring an all-wheel drive drivetrain. Details regarding the gearbox are still pending; they will reveal it at launch. We expect that the combined power output will be above 500 hp, making the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration possible in under 6 seconds, and the top speed may go up to 200 km/h.

When the battery is depleted, it may burn 7 litres of fuel per 100 km of driving. As the fuel tank size is expected to be around 70 litres, we expect that it will give a fuel-only range of 1,000 km. So we can now estimate that the combined range may be 1,500 km.

The carmaker is expected to unveil the Sky Nomad N90 in the Chinese market most probably in the last quarter of 2026, and launch may take place in early 2027. As of now, there’s no confirmation regarding its price. We expect that it will cost between 300,000 yuan and 350,000 yuan, which translates to 41.80 to 48.77 lakh rupees.
