The German automobile maker Volkswagen has officially revealed the ID Polo, an all-electric five-door hatchback, on April 29, 2026. A day after its reveal, the vehicle is available for pre-order in Germany with the starting price of £21,316, which translates to $28,732.
The market launch of the ID Polo will happen in a few weeks with the starting of delivery. The actual price is yet to be revealed; for the top-end variant, it may go up to €34,000 ($39,667). Its main rivals in the domestic market are the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, the Peugeot e-208, and the Opel Corsa Electric.
Seating, Cargo & Dimensions
The ID. Polo comes with a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3. The seats are in a traditional configuration, ensuring all occupants get comfortable seating with ample legroom, headroom, and shoulder room. Features a boot space of 441 liters and can carry 3 big pieces of luggage, which can be extended up to 1,243 liters by folding down the rear seats.
The dimensions of the vehicle in terms of length, width, and height are 4,053 mm, 1,816 mm, and 1,530 mm, respectively, making it a bigger all-electric five-door hatchback compared to its main rival, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, but smaller than the MG4 EV. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, is 2,600 mm.
Battery, Range & Charging

The ID Polo comes with two battery packs, which are 37 kWh (lithium iron phosphate) and 52 kWh (nickel manganese cobalt). The standard and larger battery pack give a range of 329 km (205 miles) and 454 km (282 miles), respectively, on the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) cycle.
The vehicle is based on 400-volt electrical architecture, which supports DC chargers up to 90 kW and 105 kW for the vehicle with 37 kWh and 52 kWh battery packs, respectively. For the 10-80% charge, the vehicle’s standard battery pack takes 23 minutes, but with the larger one, it takes only 24 minutes.
The vehicle with both battery packs comes with a standard 11 kW AC portable charger for home charging, which takes 4 hours for a full charge for a car with the standard battery and 5 hours in case it has the larger battery pack.
Motor Setup & Performance
The ID Polo gets a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that is equipped with the front axle, featuring a front-wheel drive configuration. No option for a double-motor all-wheel drive system is available. The transmission for all is single-speed automatic, and peak torque is 290 Nm.
The vehicle with a 37 kWh battery pack has two power outputs that are 116 hp (85 kW) and 135 hp (99 kW), and 52 kWh is also offered in two performances, which are 221 hp (162 kW) and 226 hp (166kW) for the GTI version. The top speed for all versions is 160 km/h (100 mph), and acceleration timing of 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) is 7-9 seconds.
Interior & Features

The ID Polo’s cabin is equipped with a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. They support wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, built-in navigation, and connected car tech. For climate control and hazard lights, it gets physical buttons to ensure practicality.
Features a two-spoke heated steering wheel with physical buttons on it for control. Other features highlight dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, multiple USB ports, storage spaces, a rear-view camera, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a panoramic glass roof.
Underpinning & Exterior
The ID Polo is built on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, which ensures better energy efficiency and longer range with a smaller battery. The exterior is based on “Pure Positive” design language; it is heavily inspired by the ID.2all concept. Up front, it features sleek LED headlights, an illuminated VW logo, and a sporty bumper.
The sides get a clean and simple hatchback silhouette, flared wheel arches, 19-inch alloy wheels for bold road presence, and hidden door handles for the second row to reduce drag. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar to create a wide stance and an illuminated VW badge for the branding. Also features a roof spoiler and diffuser-style bumper.
