MG Unveiled Multiple EVs at 2026 Melbourne Motor Show: From MG4 Urban to U9 Pickup

MG Motors has unveiled multiple new electric vehicles at the Melbourne Motor Show and also revealed their specifications and features. A total of 5 EVs are showcased in the events; they are the MG4 Urban EV, MG4 Essence 64, MG4 XPower, MGS6 EV and MG U9 EV. 

In Australia, the MG4 Urban EV is available with the driveaway price of $31,990, the MG4 Essence 64 with $39,990 and the MG4 XPower with $47,990. The pricing for the MGS6 EV and MG U9 EV is yet to be made public. Know all about these EVs from below.

MG4 Urban EV

It’s a modern hatchback that is slightly larger than the standard MG4. It is designed for urban buyers and first-time EV users. In Australia, it is offered with two LPF battery packs, 43 kWh and 54 kWh, with the standard and larger battery pack giving the WLTP range of 316 km and 405 km, respectively. 

It comes with a single motor that is mounted with the front axle, featuring a FWD drivetrain. The power output is 120 KW and 118 KW for standard and larger battery packs, respectively. Its top speed is 160 km/h. It supports DC charging with a capacity of 80 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in 30 minutes. 

MG4 Essence 64

It also comes with a single motor, but it is mounted with rear wheels featuring a RWD drivetrain. The transmission is single-speed automatic. It comes with a 64 kWh LPF battery, whose WLTC range is 452 km. It supports up to 140 kW DC charging; with full capacity, it charges from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes.

It generates the power of 140 kW and torque of 350 Nm. The acceleration timing is 7.9 seconds, and top speed goes up to 160 km. Its interior gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, physical buttons for AC and volume, a heated steering wheel, and others.

MG4 XPower

It is equipped with two motors, one with the front axle and the other with the rear axle; the setup features a drivetrain of all-wheel drive. Its power output is 320 kW, and torque is 600 Nm. The acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h is 3.8 seconds, and top speed goes up to 200 km/h. 

It also comes with a 64 kWh LPF battery whose WLTC range is 400 km. It supports a 140 KW DC charger which takes the time of 25 minutes for a 10-80% charge. Its interior gets seats made up with alcantara and leather seats, whose stitchings are orange in colour. 

MGS6 EV

MGS6 EV

It is a mid-size SUV whose launch in Australia is expected in the first half of 2026 with a price between $60,000 and $75,000. It will be introduced in the Indian market with a 77 kWh NMC battery, which will be available in RWD and AWD drivetrains, giving the WLTP range of 530 km and 485 km, respectively.

The power output for RWD is 180 kW and torque is 350 Nm, and AWD generates the power of 266 kW and torque of 540 Nm. The acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h for the RWD variant and AWD trims is 7.3 seconds and 5.1 seconds, respectively, and the top speed for both drivetrains is 200 km/h. 

MG U9 EV

It is an all-electric pickup; no details regarding its launch and price are made public. It is still a concept whose production may start in 2027. We can expect its launch in the Australian market in 2028 with a price range from $60,000 to $80,000. It will be introduced with a double-motor setup featuring AWD.

As the concept is showcased, we have got to know all about its design and exterior. Up front, it will feature a closed-off grille panel, a brand logo at the centre, and C-shaped LED DRLs. It features aero-style alloy wheels, squared wheel arches, an upright windscreen and large windows, and a flat cargo bed at the rear.
