The first all-electric model, Safari EV, from Tata Motors that will have a sitting capacity of six and seven people will make its debut in the Indian market in the very near future. This upcoming three-row EV is the most anticipated one. A report suggests that its launch is most likely to happen in January 2027, although the official confirmation regarding the same is still pending.
Previously it was in the report that the Safari EV will go on sale in India around the festive season of 2026, which now seems very unlikely because there’s no report or update on it from the side of the carmaker. Even the brand hasn’t tested any for this upcoming pure-electric model. Following the launch, it will take on the Mahindra XEV 9S and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV.
In the EV lineup, currently a total of seven models are on sale. The one sitting on the top is the Harrier EV but has only 5 seats in a 2-3 layout. The Safari EV, which is going to be an all-electric counter to the ICE-powered Safari, will make the option available for the electric vehicle buyers who are looking for a model for a large family with smart features and a long real-world range.
Set to be based on the Acti.ev+ platform.
Like the Punch EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV, and Sierra EV, the upcoming Safari EV will underpin the Acti.ev+ platform, as per media reports, which supports three different drivetrains: front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive. Regarding its powertrain, nothing is official. It is reported that an option of an 80 kWh battery pack will be available.
Claimed range, charging, and all other details will emerge after the launch. Notably, the current top-end model, Harrier EV, is available with RWD and AWD drivetrains. Its sibling, Sierra EV, is also offered with these drivetrains, so we are anticipating that these options will also be offered for the forthcoming Safari EV.
The report even suggests that the battery pack options may also be borrowed from the Harrier EV, which is on sale in India with a 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP battery pack. It is worth noting that for either of the battery packs, there’s no official confirmation of which ones will be offered, which will become clear with the launch.
What else do we know about it?
For the upcoming Safari EV, all details remain behind the wrap. It has been spied testing on public roads multiple times, due to which we have to get too many details about the exterior. The spy shots surfaced online show a similar silhouette to ICE-powered Safari.

The EV-specific detailing can also be seen on the spy shots, such as the closed-off front grill and revised bumpers. Details that we can see on spied images are the full-width taillight, prominent roof-integrated spoilers, and pull-type door handles. These exterior details are identical to the one found in the ICE-powered Safari.
One of the spied images of the upcoming Safari EV shows the dashboard through the co-passenger windshield, which reveals a triple-screen layout, similar to the Sierra EV. One at the center of the dashboard as the infotainment system, one behind the steering wheel as the driver display, and one before the co-passenger seats as the dedicated entertainment screen.
The triple-screen layout inside the cabin is all set to strengthen the forthcoming Safari EV positioning against the XEV 9S. Regarding the price, things are also unofficial. As it is going to be positioned above the Harrier EV, we expect it to cost ex-showroom between ₹22 lakh and ₹32 lakh, because the current top-end model price starts from ₹21.79 lakh and goes up to ₹30.54 lakh
