In the Indian market, the Mahindra XEV 9S is available for sale from November 27, 2025, with a seating capacity of 7 people in a 2-3-2 configuration; now they have introduced a six-seater variant for the driver who wants premium seating comfort. The 6-seater is available in a 2-2-2 layout, meaning two individuals sit in the front row, two captain chairs in the second row, and two in the third row with a bench-like structure.
Drivers in India were waiting for the launch of the six-seater variant of the XEV 9S for a very long time. It was in the report after its market launch that the carmaker would soon introduce it as a six-seater; finally, it has arrived. Notably, its launch happened eight months after its global debut in India. The six-seater version is an ideal option for a family of six, which includes grandparents, parents, and two children.
Notably, the captain’s chairs in the second two have separate armrests enhancing seating comfort; they can be flipped up to make space between the second row, which helps with easy access to the third row without sliding the second row seats. The individual chair in the second row has better shoulder room, which even makes the long journey comfortable and convenient.
What about its price?
Mahindra Auto has launched the XEV 9S six-seater all-electric SUV in a total of four variants across two different LFP battery packs, whose ex-showroom price is between ₹25.25 lakh and ₹30.15 lakh. The variant-wise prices are listed below.
- Pack Two Above 70 kWh: ₹25.25 lakh
- Pack Two Above 79 kWh: ₹26.15 lakh
- Pack Three 70 kWh: ₹28.05 lakh.
- Pack Three Above 79 kWh: ₹30.15 lakh
Notably, these variants are the same as the seven-seater versions. Compared to them, the six-seater is just costlier by ₹25,000. Getting premium seating comfort with payment of just a few thousand more isn’t bad; a family of up to 6 individuals looking for an EV with premium comfort with a budget of up to ₹30 lakh can go with it.
Why did Mahindra launch the XEV 9S 6-seater?
Under the ₹30 lakh ex-showroom price segment, only four three-row pure-electric cars are on sale in the Indian market; one among them is the Mahindra XEV 9S, and the other three are the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the VinFast VF MPV 7, and the BYD eMax 7. Before the Mahindra model, only the BYD car was available with both seating layouts of 6 and 7 people; with the launch of a six-seater version, the Mahindra has placed a rival before the BYD.
Two more three-row EVs are all set to be introduced in the Indian market in the very near future; one of them is the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, whose launch is slated for August 26, 2026, and the Tata Safari EV, which is all set to arrive by the festive season of 2026. It is still undisclosed that they will launch the model with only a seven-seater or also provide an option for the six-seater. Things regarding the MGs are uncertain, but many reports suggest that Tata is planning to do so to take on rivals more strongly.
Any other changes?
The six-seater Mahindra XEV 9S has only changes in the seating layout in the second row; besides that, the rest are the same, whether it’s the powertrain, dimensions, underpinning, or features. This EV comes with two different lithium-ion battery packs, which are 70 kWh and 79 kWh. The former one gives decent range for city driving as well as long highway rides, but the former one is good for drivers who are looking for a longer-range EV.
The 79 kWh variant has a claimed range of 679 km on the ARAI-certified condition, but in the real world, it runs between 550 km and 580 km depending on the driving conditions. The top-end variant can be used to go on a two-way drive up to 250 km without having any stops for charging. Notably, it does have speed charging support, with a maximum output of 140 kW; it takes only 20 minutes for 20-80% charging.
