Tata Safari EV Could Debut Before Diwali 2026 as Tata's Flagship Electric SUV

Tata Motors, the Indian automobile manufacturer, is all set to launch the eighth electric vehicle, Tata Safari EV, in the Indian market, which is set to be positioned above the Tata Harrier EV. They haven’t confirmed any date for the launch of the vehicle; reports suggest that the model will make its debut in the Indian market during the festive season.

As Dipawali is all set to be celebrated on November 8, 2026, we are expecting that they may launch the model in late October 2026. The upcoming Safari EV from Tata Motors is set to be a flagship sport utility vehicle that will come with a seating capacity of 7 people in a 2-3-2 layout and 6 individuals in a 2-2-2. It is set to be the most costly EV from the brand.

They haven’t yet revealed any details about this upcoming electric car. As the model is going male, it will be placed at the top in the electric vehicle lineup of Tata Motors; it is expected that it will cost ex-showroom starting from ₹23.49 lakh, and the top-end variant may cost around ₹29.99 lakh. Following the launch, it will compete with the Mahindra XEV 9S.

Note that the eighth pure-electric vehicle from Tata Motors won’t be a born-electric; it is also driven from the Tata Safari, which is already available for sale in the Indian market with internal combustion engines that cost between ₹13.40 lakh and ₹26.40 lakh. Dimensionally, the EV will be the same as the ICE counterpart; their measurements are

  • Length: 4,668 mm
  • Width: 1,922 mm
  • Height: 1,795 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,741 mm
  • Ground clearance: 200 mm
  • Boot space: 420 liters

The design of the Tata Safari EV is set to be the same as the one already on sale with a traditional powertrain with a few changes and tweaks. Upfront it is set to get a closed-off grille with a change in the lighting graphic. The side is highly expected to remain the same as the ICE version.

The Tata Safari has been spotted testing on the road numerous times. Though it was heavily camouflaged each time to conceal its exterior details, following multiple sightings, much information regarding the vehicle has emerged. The spy shots of this upcoming electric vehicle confirm that it is set to have a roof-integrated spoiler, mechanical door handles, side air curtains, A-pillar-mounted ORVMs with blinkers, and roof rails.

The cabin is highly anticipated to remain the same as the original Tata Safari, which gets a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is integrated with a 10-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos. It has a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, behind which it has a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with navigation support.

Other features available inside the cabin for the Safari with a traditional powertrain are dual-zone automatic climate control that enables setting different temperatures for the driver and co-passenger; a panoramic sunroof with voice control to enhance practicality; ventilated and powered front seats for enhanced seating comfort; 64-color ambient lighting; and an air purifier with an AQI display.

The carmaker hasn’t confirmed any details about the powertrain. Reportedly, they will introduce the model with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with single-speed automatic transmission on the rear axle featuring rear-wheel drive and an induction motor on the front axle and a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle with a one-speed automatic gearbox featuring an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.

Reports confirm that Tata Motors will introduce the model to the Indian market with two different lithium-ion battery packs, which are anticipated to be 60 kWh and 80 kWh. The rear-wheel drive is set to be available with both battery packs, and all-wheel drive with only the larger one.
