By the second half of 2026, the Indian automobile market is all set to see the launch of three plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which have an internal combustion engine, electric motor(s), and even a battery pack. The upcoming PHEVs are the MG Starlight 560, the BYD Seal U, and the Jetour T2. Let’s have a closer look at each.
MG Starlight 560

JSW MG Motors India has officially confirmed that they will unveil a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle on July 16, 2026, for the Indian market, which is expected to be called the MG Starlight 560, as it is going to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, which is already on sale in the Chinese market. Notably, they already patented it in India in March 2026 and internally codenamed it as 520.
On Indian public roads, this PHEV has already been spotted testing multiple times. Reportedly, they will launch it to the Indian market by late 2026 after showcasing it. It is highly expected to be available for sale with the ex-showroom price between ₹30 lakh and ₹40 lakh. Under the hood, it will feature a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol internal combustion engine.
An electric motor is set to be mounted on the front axle featuring a front-wheel drive drivetrain. The combined power output and peak torque are 195 hp and 230 Nm, respectively. Its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration timing is anticipated to be 9.7 seconds, and top speed may go up to 170 km/h. Under the floor, it may get a 20.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, giving 125 km of pure electric range.
BYD Seal U

BYD India, the Indian subsidiary of Built Your Dream, has officially confirmed that they will introduce the BYD Seal U, already sold as the BYD Sealion 6 in the internal market, by December 2026. As of now, there’s no word from the carmaker about its pricing; many reports suggest that it will cost between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh. The length is 4,775 mm with a 2,765 mm wheelbase; the width is 1,890 mm, and the height is 1,670 mm.
Get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol internal combustion engine, two electric motors, and an 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It is expected to come with an all-wheel drive drivetrain with a combined power output of 324 hp, which takes only 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and its top speed is 180 km/h. Reportedly, it will give a pure-electric range of 200 km. It will support DC chargers and also feature vehicle-to-load.
The center of the dashboard is set to be equipped with the 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, and there’s a digital instrument of 12.3 inches that will be available under the steering wheel. Other features that it will have are a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and heated front seats, a wireless phone charging pad, a premium sound system, and a 360-degree camera.
Jetour T2

Chery’s Jetour T2 will make its Indian debut under the banner of JSW Motor, as Chery has collaborated with them to launch the NEVs (new energy vehicles). The date for the launch isn’t officially confirmed, but many reports have suggested that they will introduce it to the Indian market during the festive season. So we are expecting that its launch may happen by October 2026.
Like the above upcoming PHEVs, its ex-showroom price is still uncertain for India. It is highly expected to cost between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh. The JSW will import it from China completely knocked down and assemble it at JSW’s plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, so it can be sold in India with affordable pricing.
It is set to get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol ICE and two electric motors, one on each axle, whose combined power output is 574 hp and 610 Nm. It will feature a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. With a 26.7 kWh LFP battery pack, it is expected to give the emission-free range around 150 km, and the combined range is anticipated to be above 1,000 km.
