On June 9, 2026, Build Your Dreams showcased proprietary DM-i (Dual Mode-Intelligent) Super Plug-in Hybrid technology and confirmed that they will launch the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the BYD Seal U, with the same technology by late 2026. Notably, it is the same model that the Chinese automaker sold abroad as Sealion 6.

In the event, the carmaker has revealed information about the hybrid technology. Notably, it gets a 1.5-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol internal combustion engine that acts as a generator to power the motor; two electric motors, one traction motor and other starter generator motors; and an 18.3 kWh BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

They claim that the engine’s thermal efficiency is 43.03% and electric motor’s efficiency 97.5%, and can run up to 200 km on pure-electric mode, and more than 1,000 km on hybrid mode with the fuel efficiency of 4.8 liter per 100 km i.e. mileage of 20.83 kmpl, meaning the combined claimed range including full battery and full tank is above 1,200 km.

200 km on Battery, 1,200 km Total: BYD Seal U PHEV Confirmed for India

BYD India, a subsidiary of Chinese carmaker Build Your Dreams, has confirmed that they will launch the BYD Seal U in the Indian market probably by late 2026. As of now, there’s no word for its price; we expect that they will retain it at the price between 45 and 50 lakh rupees. Following the launch, it is set to compete with the upcoming JSW-Chery Jetour T2.

The BYD Seal U (Sealion 6) is already available for sale in the international market, and the report suggests that the carmaker is all set to introduce the vehicle with the same specifications and features. Dimensionally, it measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height.

The wheelbase of 2,765 mm gives ample legroom for all three rear seating passengers; behind the second row, there is boot space of 425 litres that can be expanded up to 1,440 litres to carry big pieces of luggage conveniently.

Globally, it is available for sale with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive drivetrains, whose powertrains deliver the power of 218 hp and 324 hp, respectively. The FWD variant takes 7.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and AWD only 5.9 seconds for the same.

Note that the top speed for both drivetrains is 180 km/h. It is still undisclosed whether they will introduce the first PHEV with only FWD or both FWD and AWD drivetrains in the Indian market; however, it is more likely they will launch both options.

The cabin gets a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, which shows all driving data clearly, and the centre of the dashboard is equipped with a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to stream video and play music.

The infotainment system features an intelligent voice assistant, built-in navigation, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Get multiple airbags, a 360° camera, parking sensors at both ends, and an ADAS suite.

The seats get vegan leather upholstery. Both front seats are electrically adjustable and also feature heating and ventilation, and the driver’s seat also features a memory function for the convenience of the driver.

Other notable features are a wireless phone charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting that syncs with music, dual-zone automatic climate control which ensures better comfort for all, and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function that helps in powering external electronics.
