Volkswagen ID. Cross Brings 427 km Range, 12.9-Inch Screen and Harman Kardon Audio

The German carmaker Volkswagen has launched the Volkswagen ID. Cross on July 16, 2026, in Germany with the starting price of 27,995 euro, which translates to 30.80 lakh rupees in Indian currency. It is the first compact pure-electric car from the company, which is all set to give tough competition to other EVs in the segment such as the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, the Kia EV2, the Škoda Epiq, the Cupra Raval, and the BYD Atto 2.

They have introduced the model in three different variants to make it appealing for all types of buyers, two battery packs to provide options for drivers with stand and long range, a spacious cabin to ensure comfort even for long-distance travel, an aerodynamic body to provide better efficiency and make it a large cargo capacity enhanced practicality, and smart features for improved convenience. Let’s have a closer look at the newly introduced model. 

Multiple variants and affordable prices 

Volkswagen has introduced the Volkswagen ID. Cross are in three variants; they are Trend, Life, and Style. The former one is available with the price of €27,995, the second with €36,525, and the third with €39,995. The first one is equipped with a standard battery pack, and the last two with the larger. The first one is an ideal option for the buyer who is looking for an affordable option with decent range, and the last two are for drivers seeking long range.

Two battery packs and fast charging 

Volkswagen ID. Cross Blue

The Volkswagen ID. Cross’s all variants are equipped with the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, APP290, on the front axle with a one-speed automatic gearbox. As the e-motor is available on the front axle, featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. The power output for the Trend and Life and Style is maximum power of 85 kW (116 hp) and 155 kW (211 hp), respectively, and torque is 290 Nm. 

The top speed is 150 kmph for the first one and 160 kmph for the last two variants; the acceleration timing for dash to one hundred kilometers per hour is 7.6 seconds for variants that are equipped with larger battery packs. With the 37 kWh LFP and 52 kWh NMC battery pack, the WLTP range is 316 kilometers and 427 kilometers, respectively.

Support DC chargers up to 90 kW and 105 kW for the Trend and Life & Style variants, respectively. It takes 24 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging. It comes with a 6 kW AC charger, which takes only 4 hours and 5.5 hours for the 37 kWh and 52 kWh battery packs, respectively, for full charging.

Long wheel and large boot space

The length, width, and height are 4,153 mm, 1,794 mm, and 1,581 mm, respectively. Its wheelbase is 2,601 mm. Available with a seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout, which has a boot space of 475 liters that helps in carrying the big luggage conventionally, its frunk is only 25 liters that help in carrying small items. The maximum towing capacity is 1,200 kg for the last two variants.

Large touchscreen infotainment system and premium features

Inside, ID. Cross has a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, showing all the driving data. A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is mounted in the center of the dashboard, which supports over-the-air software updates, voice assistant, and wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The steering wheel is heated, its front seat is electrically adjustable in 12 ways, and the driver seat has a memory function. Both front seats feature a pneumatic massage function. Other notable features are keyless entry and push-button start, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 425-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system.
