After BYD, CATL, and Geely, now the FAW Group’s Hongqi has entered the ultra-fast charging race in China. Reportedly, Hongqi, a prestigious luxury automobile brand owned by FAW Group, has developed a battery in collaboration with Lishen Battery, China’s leading lithium-ion battery manufacturer, which takes only 3 minutes 41 seconds for 10 to 70 percent charging and 8 minutes 3 seconds for 10 to 97 percent at the temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
Notably, its peak charging rate is 12c, which means it can charge 12 times its capacity in one hour. To ensure faster lithium-ion movement, ensuring speed charging without any significant battery damage, it features a high-efficiency ultra-fast charging anode; and to reduce lithium-ion migration resistance for faster charging with lower energy loss, it uses a self-developed low-desolvation-energy electrolyte.
To keep the temperature difference across the battery pack within 3°C during operation, it comes with an intelligent uniform-temperature liquid cooling system, and to ensure safety, it monitors battery temperature in real time and dynamically adjusts charging output to prevent overcharging and overvoltage.
For clarity, the Hongqi Ultra-Fast Charging battery takes 1 minute and 36 seconds more time for 10 to 98 percent charging compared to the CATL 3rd-Gen Shenxing battery, 39 seconds less time for 10 to 97 percent compared to the Geely Energee Golden Brick battery, and 57 seconds less time than the BYD Blade Battery 2.0 for the same 10 to 97 percent. As of now, Hongqi hasn’t confirmed in which upcoming electric vehicle they are going to introduce the ultra-fast charging battery. It is likely that they won’t launch any model with this battery pack because the production model is still unconfirmed, and even though they haven’t announced the mass production timeline for it.
Before introducing any model with the ultra-fast charging battery pack, they have to build an ultra-high-power charging network so the buyers can benefit from it. Still, there’s no update on the charging network setup. In the future, we may get a model equipped with a battery pack not only for the vehicle under the banner of Hongqi but also for others, including Jiefang, Bestune, and JVs that are FAW Volkswagen and FAW Toyota.
Like the Build Your Dreams, they may also introduce existing models with the 12c fast-charging battery packs as ultra-fast charging editions. Under the banner of Hongqi, they are selling six different models, which are the Hongqi Tiangong 06, the Hongqi Tiangong 05, the Hongqi E-HS9, the Hongqi EHS7, and the Hongqi EH7.
The most recently launched electric vehicle under the banner of Hongqi is Hongqi Tiangong 08, which is marketed as EHS7 in the internal market. Its refreshed version launch happened in July 2026 in China. It is built on 800V Tiangong EV architecture and comes with three different battery packs, which are 75 kWh, 85 kWh, and 111 kWh lithium-ion battery packs, whose range is 520 km, 605 km, and 730 km for RWD and 680 km for AWD.
