Volvo, a Swedish-origin automotive brand, will soon introduce the Volvo S70, a plug-in hybrid electric sedan, in China. It was spotted camouflaged, even though its spy shots have revealed a few details such as large body proportions, roof-mounted LiDAR units, A-pillar-mounted outside rear-view mirrors, a long wheelbase, a sloping roofline, and a roof-integrated rear windshield.
As of now, no details regarding this upcoming PHEV from Volvo have emerged; we are expecting it to appear in the China MIIT filing catalogue release in August 2026, and then the carmaker will start releasing its official image, starting with the exterior and then the interior. The third quarter of 2026 is most anticipated for its unveiling.
Nothing is confirmed officially about this upcoming Volvo’s electrified sedan. Chinese media reports suggest that it is set to be based on the Lynk & Co 10, a plug-in hybrid electric sedan, which gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine under the hood generating the maximum power of 120 kW.
Additionally, get two electric motors, one on each axle; the front one delivers the power of 180 kW and 90 kW; the combined is 390 kW. Its drivetrain is electric all-wheel drive, and the powertrain is a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Get 18.4 kWh and 38.2 kWh battery packs, giving the 120 km and 240 km pure-electric range, respectively.
This PHEV is set to become the third model from Volvo to be available for sale in the Chinese market that is locally manufactured. The other two models are the Volvo XC70, a plug-in hybrid electric sport utility vehicle, based on the Lynk & Co 08; and the Volvo EM90, a pure-electric multi-purpose vehicle, on the Zeekr 009.
The former one is available for sale with the price between 269,900 and 349,900 yuan, translates to 40,000 to 51,870 USD, and the latter with 818,000 yuan (121,200 USD). Currently, they are selling three sedans in China, including the S60, S90, and ES90. The upcoming one is set to be positioned between the Volvo S60 and Volvo S90.
Following the launch in the Chinese market, it will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class PHEV, the Geely Galaxy Starshine 8, the BYD Han DM-i, Denza Z9 GT, and the Lynk & Co 10 EM-P. The presale of the Volvo S70 PHEV may begin in the third quarter of 2026, shortly after which the market launch will take place.
The S70 under the banner of Volvo to make its debut as an all-wheel-drive vehicle, which may get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE under hood and two electric motors, one one each axle. Beneath the floor, it is expected to feature around a 35 kWh battery pack, giving it a pure-electric range greater than rivals.
Highly anticipated to feature a seating capacity of five people in a 2-3 layout, the cabin is set to be quite spacious with ample legroom for rear-seating passengers, which makes the long journey convenient. Because of its large proportions, behind the second row it may have large boot space to help with carrying the luggage.
The cabin is set to have a large touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard, which will support wireless smartphone connectivity, over-the-air software updates, and an AI-based voice assistant. The front seats are expected to be ventilated and heated and may also be electrically adjustable with the massage functions.
Currently, there’s no word for its price, even though no media sources have talked about it. As it is likely to be based on the Lynk & Co 10 PHEV, available for sale with the price of 173,800 to 211,800 yuan (25,600 to 31,200 USD) in Chinese market, we are expecting that the upcoming Volvo S70 will also cost around 150,000 yuan (22,250 USD).
