It is a plug-in hybrid crossover with a seating capacity of five people in a layout of 2-3. The dimensions in length are 4,735 mm, width is 1,860 mm, height is 1,690 mm, and wheelbase is 2,712 mm. Its main rivals in China are Geely Galaxy L7 PHEV, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV, and Haval H6 PHEV.

Powertrain & Performance

The Flying Edition is equipped with 1.5 litres of naturally aspirated petrol that is paired with an electric motor on the front axle. Its drivetrain is front-wheel drive, and transmission is single-speed automatic.

The power output of the ICE and PMSM is 74 kW (99 hp) and 120 kW (161 hp), respectively. It is available with two battery packs, which are 26.6 kWh and 34.27 kWh, whose CLTC-range, only-electric range is 220 km and 301 km, respectively. The 0-100 km/h acceleration timing is 8.4 seconds, and top speed goes up to 180 km.

Since it’s a PHEV, it also gets a fuel tank of 52 litres. As the fuel efficiency is 3.2 litres per 100 km driving, the petrol-only CLTC range is 1,625 kilometres. The overall CLTC range for 220 km trims and 301 km trims are 1845 km and 1926 km, respectively.

Exterior & Design

The Flying Edition comes with BYD’s ‘Dragon Face’ design language, and there’s a large hexagonal grille with chrome elements on the frontend to give it a bold look. The LED headlights are in the shape of a ‘dragon eye’ to enhance the upfront aggressiveness.

On the sides, it gets smooth-flowing body lines for better aerodynamics. The beltline is also slightly raised to give a sporty SUV stance, and the wheel arches give a muscular look. The back features a full-width LED taillight bar, and the tailgate’s design is simple and minimal, but the bumper at the rear is a little sporty.

The roofline is slightly flat for better headroom for occupants; there’s a panoramic sunroof to enhance the cabin’s premium feel, and roof rails add practicality. The LiDAR sensor, which works with the ADAS for driving, is visible on the roof from the front side of the car and a small spoiler at the rear of the vehicle.
