The A05, a budget-friendly all-electric hatchback from Leapmotor, is all set to make its debut in China in May 2026, shortly after which the pre-sale will begin. It is more likely that the vehicle will arrive at the dealership within a few days after the start of pre-sales, and then its launch will happen and customers who have booked during will get delivery.
The launch date isn’t confirmed, but there’s high speculation that the Chinese automaker may launch it in June 2026. Pricing is also yet to be revealed; the pre-sale will start with a tentative price, and the launch will happen with the actual one. Usually, the launch price is less compared to the pre-sale price.
The start price for the base variant is expected to be around 80,000 CNY (11,600 USD), and the top-end trim may come with a cost of up to 100,000 CNY (14,500 USD). The main competitors of the Leapmotor A05 in the Chinese market are BYD Seagull 2026, Volkswagen ID.3 Neo, Geely Xingyuan, and Wuling Binguo S.
Space & Dimensions
Comes with the seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3. It is an ideal option for a family who are looking for an eco-friendly vehicle. The cargo capacity is yet to be revealed but is most anticipated to be around 350 liters, which helps in carrying multiple small bags. However, the rear seats are set to be foldable; that may increase the space.
The MIIT filings have already revealed its dimensions. In terms of length, width, and height, the car measures 4,200 mm, 1,800 mm, and 1,560 mm, respectively. The wheelbase is 2605 mm, a little shorter than all its three rivals mentioned above but ample to give decent legroom for rear-seating passengers whether they are adults, kids, or teens.
Battery, Range & Charging

The Leapmotor will introduce the A05 in two different battery packs for the domestic market; they haven’t yet revealed what their capacities are. The MIIT filing has revealed that the vehicle with the standard battery pack has a range of 405 km (252 miles), but with the large one it runs up to 510 km (317 miles) on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle.
Nothing regarding the charging capacity is revealed. Reports say that that standard battery pack may support 100 kW for the standard battery pack and 150 kW for the larger one. It may take 30 minutes for 30-80% charging. An AC charger of 11.2 kW is expected with the vehicle for home charging and may take 6-8 hours for the full charge, depending on battery capacity.
Motor Setup & Performance
The vehicle is set to come with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which will be equipped with the front axle, featuring a front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain. It will feature a single-speed automatic transmission, standard in the segment; its competitors also come with the same.
Depending on the battery pack, the motor has two different power outputs. With the standard battery pack it generates the power of 94 hp (74 KW), and the same with the larger one is 121 hp (90 KW). The acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) and top speed are yet to be released, but it may sprint in 9-13 seconds and go up to 160 km/h (100 mph).
Its exterior design and interior features highlights are yet to be revealed. But it is certain to come with an exterior with better aerodynamics and an interior with a simple layout with smart features. One thing that many reports have mentioned is that the vehicle may come with LiDAR-based ADAS, which makes driving stress-free.
