Leapmotor, a Chinese automobile manufacturer, will start the presale for the Leapmotor D99, a multi-purpose vehicle, on June 25, 2026, for the domestic market. The pre-order for this MPV is set to begin for both powertrains: pure-electric and extended-range electric.
As of now, there’s no word for the pre-sale price; we expect that they will start with a price ranging from 300,000 yuan to 450,000 yuan, which translates to 42.16 lakh rupees and 63.25 lakh rupees. Following the launch, it will compete with Xpeng X9, Zeekr 009 and Denza D9.
Projection headlights, long wheelbase and futuristic rear animatable lighting
The D99 measures 5,280 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width and 1,880 mm in height. At the front end, this MPV features a closed-off grille for better aerodynamics; a split headlight setup with full-width LED daylight running lights below the nose; and multi-million-pixel DLP projection headlights at the fender, giving a premium touch, and a roof-mounted LiDAR unit reflects that the car is equipped with intelligent ADAS.
On the sides, you can clearly see the long wheelbase with the length of 3110 mm that makes the cabin spacious and also gives bold road presence; pie-shaped aero-optimised large alloy wheels ensure better aerodynamics; and blackout outside rear-view mirrors give the clear view of traffic behind, with integrated side spoilers needed to be blinked when deviating from the straight path.
The back gets full-width LED taillights, creating a wide stance, and below the same. It also features a 1,498 mm ISD interactive light curtain with 8,260 LED chips, which enables showing animation. Other notable features are the rear roof-integrated spoilers that ensure better airflow and reduce turbulence at high speed, and the minimalist tailgate design gives it an uncluttered rear view.
Two powertrain options and a long real-world driving range
D99’s extended-range electric vehicle version gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the hood that acts as a generator and features two electric motors, one on each axle, featuring an all-wheel drive drivetrain. The system generates the power of 300 kW (402 hp). Equipped with the 80.3 kWh LFP battery pack, giving the emission-free CLTC range of 480 km. The electrical architecture is 800 volts and can charge 30-80% in just 15 minutes.
On the other hand, the electric vehicle version gets only two electric motors, one is mounted on each axle, delivering the power of 180 kW (241 hp) and 230 kW (308 hp), respectively; it also features an AWD drivetrain. Combined, these two motors generate 410 kW (549 hp). Get a 115 kWh NCM-LFP battery pack giving the CLTC range of 700 km. Its electrical architecture is 1000 volts and can add 350 km range with just a 15-minute charge.
Zero-gravity rotatable aviation-style seats, a built-in refrigerator and large boot space
The D99 comes with a seating capacity of seven people in a 2-2-3 layout with zero-gravity aviation-style seats in the second row that can be rotated up to 180°. They also feature heating, ventilation and massage functions. Behind the third-row seats, there’s a boot space of 706 litres that can be extended up to 2,890 litres by folding the third-row seats.
The central console gets two wireless phone charging pads and double cup holders; the dashboard features a 10.25-inch driver display under the steering wheel and a 17.3-inch infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard that acts as the control panel of the cabin, as most of the functions are touch-based.
Also features a 21.4-inch 3K ceiling-mounted 90° to 110° electronically adjustable screen that is controlled via a 6-inch multi-function control screen that is integrated with the central console; below the same, there’s a 11.4-litre built-in refrigerator for heating and cooling of beverages and eatables.
To make the driving safe by keeping the driver focused on the road, it features a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display which projects the primary driving data onto the windscreen. Other features are two foldable tables, fragrance systems, and a panoramic giant screen sunroof.
