FAW-Volkswagen's ID.Aura Spied Testing: Expected Price, Features & Launch Timeline

The ID.Aura from FAW-Volkswagen has recently been spied testing. It is a pure electric mid-size SUV that features LiDAR technology, which was showcased in the Auto Show 2025 as a concept. Its debut is anticipated to take place in the first half of 2026, followed by a launch in the second half of 2026.

The FAW-Volkswagen ID.Aura is based on CEA electronic architecture. The actual price will be disclosed near launch; it is likely to be available with pricing between 220,000 and 300,000 Chinese yuan. Its launch will compete with the other mid-size SUVs, which include the Tesla Model Y, XPeng G9 and NIO ES6.

Exterior & Design

The front fascia is likely to have a closed-off front grille for EV styling, rectangular main headlamps and a full-width LED daylight running light strip that makes it look more aggressive. There’s a LiDAR on it, which enhances the advanced driver assistance system.

At the sides, it may get a conventional mid-size SUV silhouette, which focuses on practicality and space; a bold muscular stance enhances its road presence; Y-shaped dual-tone alloy wheels with a sporty and modern design that adds premium appeal; and semi-flush door handles which improve aerodynamics.

The back of the ID. Aura is expected to get full-width LED tail lamps with signature ID-series lighting, a minimalistic tailgate with a clean and futuristic design, and a sculpted rear bumper that enhances the sporty look and makes it recognisable even from below.

Interior & Features

The ID.Aura will feature the same cabin design as shown in the concept but with a few changes for better practicality. It is likely to get a large central touchscreen for infotainment that features a smartphone-like user interface, and very few physical buttons and control systems will be touch-based.

It is certain to get a digital screen as the driver displays that navigation, speed, and ADAS information and also all set to get many additional high-tech and smart features that ensure comfort, convenience and safety, which include ventilated seats, a wireless charging pad, multiple airbags, and others.

Dimensions & Space

The dimensions for ID. Aura will be revealed with its debut in China. It is likely that it stretches more than 4.7 metres, as it is set to be larger than its sibling ID. 4. The width is expected to be around 1.9 metres, which will feature a wide stance, and the height is anticipated to be around 1.6 metres, providing ample headroom.

The wheelbase may measure around 2.8 metres, which will provide better stability at high speeds and decent legroom even for the rear-seating passengers. It is certain to be introduced with a seating capacity of five people with a layout of 2-3 with a cargo space of 500 litres; by folding rear seats down, the cargo space can be increased significantly.

Brake & Suspension

The front suspension is expected to be MacPherson strut and the rear multi-link independent, which provides better steering stability and improved handling and cornering stability, respectively; both front and rear brakes are likely to be ventilated discs, which provide better heat dissipation.

Powertrain & Performance

The ID.Aura is likely to be introduced to the Chinese market with a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration and a double-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain. The offered battery pack may be 60-85 kWh LPF, which will range from 500 to 620 km.

Its electrical architecture is based on 800 volts, which may support up to a 250-275 kW DC charge. It will take around 25 minutes to charge it from 20-80% and will also support an AC charger up to 11 kWh, which may take around 7-9 hours to fully charge the vehicle, depending on the battery pack.
