If the Nexon and ZS are compared in terms of pricing, it is evident that the Nexon is more affordable; the price of the Nexon’s top-end variant is even lower than that of the ZS’s entry-level variant. If affordability is your priority, the Nexon is the better option.

Powertrain & Performance

Both the Nexon and the ZS come equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the front wheels, which means they both feature a front-wheel-drive powertrain, and the transmission in both models is a single-speed automatic.

  • Tata Nexon EV: Its mid-range variants come equipped with a 30 kWh battery producing 127 bhp of power, while the 45 kWh variant generates 142 bhp; both versions deliver a torque of 215 Nm. The MR variants offer a range of 275 km, whereas the LR variants provide 489 km. In terms of acceleration, the MR variants outperform the LR variants, taking 9.2 seconds and 8.9 seconds, respectively, to reach a speed of 0 to 100 km/h.
  • MG ZS EV: It comes with a 50.3 kWh battery pack, producing 174 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. It has a range of 461 km; in terms of acceleration, it takes 8.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, and the top speed goes up to 175 km/h.

If you are looking for a high-performance EV featuring a large battery pack along with impressive range, power output, and acceleration, and if price is not a concern for you, then the MG ZS EV is the perfect option.

Exterior & Design

Between the Nexon and the ZS, the ZS is the larger SUV, as its length, width, height, and wheelbase measure 4323 mm, 1809 mm, 1649 mm, and 2585 mm, respectively; whereas the Nexon’s length is just 3994 mm, its width is 1802 mm, its height is 1616 mm, and its wheelbase is 2498 mm. However, the Nexon boasts greater ground clearance compared to the ZS, 190 mm versus 177 mm.

The Nexon features a sporty, coupe-inspired compact SUV design, characterised by a full-width LED DRL and connected tail lamps; thanks to its compact footprint, it is perfectly city-friendly. In contrast, the ZS sports a larger, more traditional SUV design, boasting a clean and premium aesthetic enhanced by chrome accents; its larger stance lends it a stronger road presence.

Interior & Features

Both the Nexon and the ZS offer a seating capacity of five passengers arranged across two rows, with space for two occupants in the front and three in the rear. Since the Nexon is a compact SUV, accommodating three passengers in the rear seat can be somewhat challenging; however, the ZS allows for comfortable seating due to its good length.

The ZS offers a larger cargo capacity; while the Nexon’s boot space is just 350 litres, the ZS provides 448 litres. The interior of the ZS is replete with premium soft-touch dashboard materials, and its wider cabin stance offers superior shoulder room. In contrast, the Nexon’s interior features a modern dual-tone cabin design with a rear seat armrest and decent legroom.

In terms of features, the Nexon has a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a JBL premium sound system, and ventilated front seats as the main highlights; and the ZS features 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof and an electrically adjustable driver seat.

Both the Nexon and the ZS come equipped with 6 airbags, and the top-end variants of both models feature Level 2 ADAS. Their standard safety features include ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, a Rear Parking Camera, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

By now, you must have understood the key differences between the Nexon and the ZS. So, let’s discuss which one is right for you.

  • If you have a small family of 3-4 members and are looking for an affordable EV, you should opt for the Nexon; it offers excellent value for money.
  • However, if you have a family of five and are seeking comfort for long drives along with premium features, then the ZS represents the best value-for-money option for you.
