After its April 24, 2026, global debut at the Beijing Auto Show, the Hyundai IONIQ V is all set to see the market launch in the Chinese market in September 2026. The model is developed by Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai Motor’s 50:50 joint venture with BAIC Group.
The actual date of the launch of the Ioniq 5 is yet to be confirmed; many reports are suggesting that the presale will start in early August 2026 with the tentative price, and then the first week of September 2026 may see the market launch with the actual price.
The carmaker is all set to launch the model in China in two different powertrains, which are battery electric and extended-range electric.
Battery Electric Vehicle
The BEV version of the Ioniq V is all set to be available for sale in China as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Reports confirm that it has a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle, which is mated with a one-speed automatic gearbox. Depending on the battery pack, the electric motor generates the power of 140 kW (188 hp) and 168 kW (225 hp).
They will offer this vehicle with different lithium-ion battery packs, which are set to be 53.5 kWh and 66.8 kWh. The carmaker has officially confirmed that the variant equipped with the larger battery pack can run up to 650 km, and the standard one is anticipated to give a range of around 540 km. Both variants have a top speed of 165 km/h, as per the China MIIT filling catalogue release.
Extended-Range Electric Vehicle
The Ioniq V’s EREV version is most expected to get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine, which is set to act as a generator to power the motor that actually moves the wheels. Reports suggest that under the hood, it will get a permanent magnet synchronous motor with single-speed automatic transmission, although its power output is still pending.
The carmaker is yet to reveal the battery pack and other details about the version. Notably, it will also support 800-volt fast DC charging like battery electric vehicles.
Dimensions & Exterior
The IONIQ V is a four-door fastback sedan whose length, width, and height are 4,900 mm, 1,890 mm, and 1,470 mm, respectively. Its wheelbase is 2,900 mm. Notably, the design and dimensions of both BEV and EREV are the same. Outside, it has H-shaped daylight running lights, bumper-integrated main LED headlights, and the Hyundai logo on the bonnet.
On the sides, it has wheel arch cladding and also lower body cladding. A, B, and C pillars are kept blacked out to create a floating effect. It has a flush-type door, which not only reduces the aerodynamic drag but also improves efficiency. Features a front-door-mounted double-toned outside rear-view mirror, which shows a clearer view of the back.
The rear has slim horizontal LED taillamps that connect together with black trim at the center. Its tailgate has IONIQ branding for branding. Features a diffuser-style skid plate on the bumper. The bumper even has a horizontal-shaped reflector on the side, which makes the vehicle visible at night even when the taillight is off.
Interior & Features
Available with 5-person seating capacity in 2-3 layouts. On the dashboard, it has a 27-inch 4K panoramic display, which acts as an infotainment system and entertainment screen for co-passengers. Instead of a digital instrument cluster, it has an augmented reality head-up display projecting all the driving-related information on the windshield.
Reportedly, the screen mounted on the dashboard runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit processor, which features dual AI large language models, four-zone intelligent voice control, an AI-powered natural voice assistant, and over-the-air software update support with connected car technology.
