The MG Starlight EV was recently spotted testing in Gujarat. The test mule was heavily camouflaged, indicating that most design details are still a secret. Notably, the carmaker has already patented it in India, revealing all about its exterior and design. Up front, closed-off grille is present for EV styling. It has horizontal LED headlights, above which the LED DRLs are visible to ensure better visibility. Its floating bonnet and A chromed bumper enhances the road presence.
In profile, the squared-off wheel arches with black cladding is clearly visible. On the side, its roof is mounted with roof rails to help in carrying bulky luggage on the roof by securing it. The door handles are conventional for better practicality. It features five-spoke wheels, which are 18-inch in diameter, they are made up of alloy featuring dual-tone, and A, B, and C pillars are blacked-out.
The rear gets full-width LED taillights to add a modern lighting signature that makes the car’s back quite eye-catching. Other design highlights at the rear are dual-tone roof mounted spoiler, beefy bumper, and silver skid plate. As the car is yet to be revealed, therefore its official dimensions have not been made public. However, it is set to be based on Wuling Starlight, measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height.
Launch & Price
MG Motors has codenamed the MG Starlight EV as Project 520. Reports say that the British automobile manufacturer will introduce the car to the Indian market between October 2026 and December 2026 with the expected ex-showroom price starting ₹20 lakh. Once launched, it will give tough competition to Mahindra XEV 9e.
Features & Technology
The MG Starlight EV is set to come with the seating capacity of 7 people in layout of 2-3-2, it will feature a little cargo space. However, the rear seats are foldable that expands the cargo space significantly. Its cabin is going be quite spacious and feature rich. Inside, it is expected to get 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster.
The front seat is likely to feature lounge mode, which reclines the seat to 180° to make it flat as bed. The second-row seats are adjustable upto 125° for better comfort of occupants. Other features expected are electrically adjustable panoramic sunroof with heat and UV rays protection, multi-color ambient lighting, front ventilated and powered seats, dual wireless phone charging pad.
Inside, the cabin there will be multiple airbags which is a key safety features that saves lives incase of collision. To make the driving almost autonomous, it it set to come with the Level 2 ADAS that includes smart features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Forward Collision Warning.
Powertrain & Performance
Reportedly, it will come with a single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that is mounted with front-axle featuring front-wheel drivetrain. Its transmission is set to be single-speed automatic, which is standard in the segment. The power output and peak torque is expected to be 136 hp and 200 Nm, respectively, which is expected to make its acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds.
The top speed is anticipated around 170 km/h, which is likely to make it a faster EV in the segment. Expected to be offered with a 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack with ARAI-certified range of around 550 km. The car is set to be based on 400V electrical architecture, meaning it may support DC charger upto 150 kW that will take around 30 minutes for 20 to 80 percent charging.
