Honda's First India-Made Global EV Debuts in Second Half of 2026

The Honda Motor Company’s Indian subsidiary Honda Cars India has officially confirmed that the upcoming all-electric sport utility vehicle Honda 0 Alpha will make its global debut in the second half of 2026. The confirmation comes from the start of pan-India road testing that began in March 2026 from the Tapukara manufacturing facility that was established in Rajasthan.

They already have confirmed the company is all set to manufacture the Honda 0 Alpha all-electric SUV in India and sell it not only in India but also export it overseas, including to Japan. The company is primarily planning to source a significant portion of components locally so that it can offer competitive pricing. However, it is still uncertain from where they are set to source the battery packs and motors.

The spy shots from the pan-India test run flag-off ceremony reflect that the production of the Honda 0 Alpha pure-electric SUV is set to be the same in terms of design that was showcased back at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo on 29 October 2025. Let’s have a closer look at the design.

Upfront, it gets full-width LED daylight running lights that stretch across the nose with an illuminated Honda logo at the centre, giving it a modern look, upright stance and overhang enhancing its SUV styling, and a closed-off grill and black front panel.

In profile, it gets flush-type handles for the front gate on the door, but for the rear one, it gets a C pillar, double-toned outside rear-view mirrors with an integrated side spoiler, black wheel arch cladding, large and chromed alloy wheels, and blacked-out window trims.

On the rear, it features a U-shaped taillight covering the entire rear windscreen that features ‘Honda’ lettering, an integrated roof spoiler, and a minimalistic tailgate giving an uncluttered view.

Specification and features are still pending. Reportedly, its length will be around 4.2 metres, featuring a wheelbase of around 2.8 metres. Thanks to its upright body, all five occupants will get ample headroom. The trunk behind the rear seat is also anticipated to feature a large boot space to carry luggage.

Inside, it may feature leatherette upholstery with premium soft-touch trims on the dashboard. A large touchscreen infotainment system is set to be equipped in the centre of the dashboard just above the central console. Anticipated to feature a two-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons for control, under which there will be a digital instrument cluster.

Reports suggest that the front seats will be electronically adjustable with memory function, and they are also expected to feature heating and massage functions. Goodies that it may get are a wireless phone charging pad, double-zone climate control, six airbags, and powered ORVMs and a tailgate.

The carmaker has officially confirmed that they will introduce a single-motor setup on the front axle, whose type is set to be permanent magnet synchronous. Getting the motor on the front axle means its drivetrain will be front-wheel drive, and the transmission is set to be single-speed automatic, which means the motor will be mated with a 1-speed automatic gearbox.

As of now, there’s no word for the battery pack. It is anticipated to get the LFP battery pack ranging from 60 kWh to 75 kWh. Notably, it is certain that they will introduce it with two battery packs, standard and larger. There’s a high speculation that the larger one will give a range of around 600 kilometres.

The launch date for the upcoming all-electric Honda 0 Alpha SUV is yet to be confirmed; we expect that the carmaker may introduce it to the Indian market by the first quarter of 2027 with the ex-showroom price ranging from 35 to 40 lakh rupees. Once launched, it will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, and Mahindra BE 6.
