AION UT Enters the UK With 204 PS, 481 km Range and a £28,950 Price

The AION UT, a 5-door battery-electric hatchback under the B segment, will have its public debut in the United Kingdom at the British Motor Show, Farnborough, and then the order booking will be at an amount of £28,950 (₹37.78 lakh) from September 2026. Measures 4,270 mm longer, 1,850 mm wider, and 1,575 mm taller.

Features 5 seats in a 2-3 arrangement, with the wheelbase of 2,750 mm, all occupants get ample space to sit comfortably. Ground clearance is 147 mm when no one is boarded, but when all the seats are full, it reduces to 130 mm. Gets a 440-litre boot space behind the second row to help with carrying the luggage conventionally.

Coming with the integrated LED headlights, the daylight running light brackets, the main headlamps, and four squared dots visible on the front bumper are fogs that enhance the road’s visibility during the bad weather. Semi-hidden flush-type door handles, A-pillar-mounted ORVMs, and black wheel arch cladding enhance the in-profile view.

C-shaped taillamps on the edges improve the car’s visibility to other road users during the night, and a slim horizontal reflector on the rear that reflects at night makes the vehicle visible to others when parked. Spoilers at the rear are integrated with the roof that also houses braking lights that light up when the brake pedals are pressed.

Despite its compact dimensions, its cabin is full of features and technology that are offered with bigger cars. Features a round-shaped two-spoke steering wheel that has physical buttons for control, an 8.8-inch digital LCD instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Other features that come as standard are HERE Maps, a six-speaker sound system, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, over-the-air software updates for the centrally mounted screen, air conditioning vents in the second row, USB charging ports including A and C for phone charging convenience, and a PM 2.5 air filter for fresh air inside the cabin.

The driver’s and co-passenger’s seats are powered and also heated; even the steering wheel is heated to keep the driver warm during the freezing cold. With an additional £1,200 (₹1.56 lakh) payment, a premium pack is available that has ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charging pad, a powered tailgate, and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Features a permanent magnet synchronous motor with single-speed automatic transmission on the front axle. The setup makes it a front-wheel-drive car, making it ideal for city driving and light highway cruising. The PMSM generates 150 kW (204 PS) power and 210 Nm torque, which make 0 to 100 km/h acceleration timing possible in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 160 km/h.

A range of 481 km on WLTP conditions with a 62 kWh LFP battery pack is offered, whose usable capacity is 60 kWh. The battery features liquid cooling to keep it cool during use and charging. With the DC charger up to 87 kW, it takes a time of 24 minutes for 10-80% charging, and the full charging time with the 11 kW AC charger is up to 6 hours.

The range claimed by the company for the AION UT is in ideal condition; its real-world driving range is set to vary from one another depending on different factors such as driving style, AC usage, and weather. In the real world, the range compared to claims may fall short by 10-15%, meaning it may run up to 410-430 km.

After the United Kingdom market launch, it is set to compete with the Geely EX2, Volkswagen ID.4 Polo, BYD Dolphin, and other models in the segment. The EV market in the UK is growing rapidly, and the new nameplate with the Aion banner is anticipated to make good sales numbers because of its offering at quite affordable pricing with the appealing design.
