Fangchengbao, the subsidiary of BYD, has officially confirmed the launch date for the Formula S sedan and Formula S GT shooting brake for the Chinese market. These vehicles will go on sale in the Indian market with the battery electric powertrain with both the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive drivetrains. Let’s have a closer look at this.

The launch date for the Formula S and Formula S GT is now officially confirmed by BYD’s FCB. They are all set to launch these cars to the domestic market on September 16, 2026, by organising an event in Shanghai. Notably, the launch of these electric vehicles is all set to take place within a month after the start of the presale.
What do we know so far about these upcoming FCB EVs?
The Formula S and Formula S GT core specifications are revealed via the China MIIT filing catalogue release for the vehicle; their dimensions in terms of width, height, and wheelbase are 1,967 mm, 1,483 mm, and 2,960 mm, respectively. The length of the standard is 5,060 mm, and the same for GT is 5,025 mm, but with the tow hook, the length measures 5,095 mm.
Both of these cars are built on BYD e-Platform 3.0 Evo with the all-electric powertrain. The RWD variant gets one permanent magnet synchronous motor, and AWD additionally has an induction motor on the front axle. The RWD variant of the Formula S will go on sale with two different power outputs, 245 kW and 300 kW, and the Formula S GT will only have 300 kW.
The AWD variant of Formula S and Formula S GT have 190 kW front and 300 kW rear electric motors, respectively, with the combined power output of 490 kW. The PMSM on both cars will be mated with single-speed automatic transmission, and the top speed for both is set to 240 km. The 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing for the GT version is 2.3 seconds for the all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
The Formula S will go on sale with two different lithium-ion battery packs, 76.744 kWh and 92.093 kWh, giving a range of 730 km, 750 km, 770 km, 830 km, and 900 km on CLTC condition; and the AWD will get the 92.093 kWh LFP battery pack, giving the range of 730 km to 850 km. These battery packs are Blade 2.0, supporting ultra-fast DC chargers that take 5 minutes for 10 to 70 per cent charging.
The wheel sizes of 19-inch and 20-inch are confirmed, enhancing the road presence. DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological suspensions are double-wishbone at the front and five-link at the rear. Set to be equipped with BYD God’s Eye, intelligent ADAS that works with the Orin-X, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars and 3 mm-wave radars, featuring highway and urban navigation autopilot.
Both models have 5 seats; the kerb weight is 1,999 to 2,250 kg for standard and 2,170 to 2,280 kg for GT; and its gross vehicle weight is 2,705 kg. The exterior has a closed EV-style front fascia, slim and angular LED headlights, LED DRLs, a sculpted bonnet, a sporty front bumper, and semi-hidden door handles. Additionally, GT has a shooting-brake body style, a longer, flatter roofline, and a larger rear cargo area.

In the last eight months, a total of 242,255 units have been sold, including 21,581 in January 2026, 17,036 in February 2026, 25,926 in March 2026, 29,138 in April 2026, 30,186 in May 2026, 35,607 in June 2026, 41,213 in July 2026, and 41,568 in August 2026. On the year-on-year and month-on-month basis, the sale increased by 0.86% and 155.57% in August 2026.
