China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) Purchase Tax Exemption Catalog on June 15, 2026, which shows that MG Motors, owned by the Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, will launch the MG 07, a fastback sedan, in the Chinese market with both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid electric powertrains in the very near future.
Reportedly, the carmaker is planning to launch the 07 sedan in China in the last quarter of 2026 with the prices between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan (20 to 28 lakh rupees). Following the launch in the Chinese market, its EV version will compete with the BYD Seal, Xiaomi SU7, and Tesla Model 3, and the PHEV will take on the BYD Seal 06 DM-i, Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 EM-i, and Changan Qiyuan A07.
The EV version gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor, TZ185XY1181, from Shanghai Automotive Gearbox Company, on the rear axle that is mounted with single-speed automatic transmission. As the PMSM is bolted with the rear axle, it comes with a rear-wheel-drive drivetrain. The electric motor generates the peak power of 176 kW, equivalent to 236 bhp, and peak torque is still pending.

The electric vehicle is equipped with a 67 kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the floor. When it is fully charged, it can run up to 650 kilometers on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle; however, the real-world figure is still unknown and may give a range of around 520-550 kilometers. The manufacturer will soon release the DC charging output and time.
On the other hand, the PHEV version gets a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol internal combustion engine under the hood and a permanent magnet synchronous motor, whose mounting place is still uncertain. The ICE delivers the power of 82 kW (110 bhp), and the PMSM does 152 kW (208 bhp); they are yet to reveal the combined power output and torque.
Under the floor, the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle gets a 30 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which gives an emission-free range of 185 kilometers under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle after each full charge; the combined range is still pending but highly expected to run around 900 kilometers.

Notably, on May 9, 2026, MG Motors released the official image of the sedan, meaning they already have unveiled its exterior. Up front, it gets C-shaped headlights, including the main headlamps in the upper housing and horizontal daylight running lights below; an MG logo on the bonnet, reflecting branding; and a full-width bumper integrated with a lower air intake for cooling the battery pack.
On the sides, it gets blackout seven-spoke alloy wheels, giving it bold road presence; a fastback roofline creating floating, frameless windows adds premiums; double-tone ORVMs with integrated blinkers add visual depth; flush-type door handles give it a clean side profile; the rear boasts a full-width taillight creating a wide stance; and sunroof-integrated rear windshield make its rear look dynamic.
Looking from the front, a roof-mounted LiDAR unit is clearly visible, which directly indicates that this sedan is equipped with an advanced driving assistant system. The manufacturer has officially confirmed that it features the Momenta R7 Enhanced World Model solution that works with the X7 (XHEART X7) AI chip and features both navigation and autopilot for urban and highway use.
The manufacturer is yet to be revealed. It is certain that it will come with a seating capacity of five people in a 2-3 layout and have large boot space behind the rear seats. The dashboard may get a large touchscreen infotainment system at the center and a digital instrument cluster before the driving seat.
The central console is anticipated to feature two wireless phone charging pads and two cup holders for convenience of driver and co-passenger. Both front seats may be ventilated, heated, and electrically adjustable, and the driver seat is highly expected to support memory function.
