BYD Great Tang Launching In May 2026: Flagship SUV With Mega Charging & Triple Screens

The Great Tang, a full-size crossover with a seating capacity of 7 people, from BYD breaks the cover on March 5, 2026, and is now all set to make its China debut in May 2026. It is based on the Dynasty-D, which was revealed at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. In China, the Great Tang is also known as Datang.

It is all set to be available for sale in the Chinese market in both BEV and PHEV powertrains. On April 3, 2025, Lu Tian, who is the general manager of the BYD Dynasty network sales division, posted on his Weibo account and announced that the pre-sale of Great Tang for the domestic market will start in April 2026. 

BYD will announce the price near the launch, but the report says that Great Tang will be available with pricing below 300,000 Chinese yuan. Its main rival in the Chinese market will be the Galaxy M9 from Geely, which is available with a starting price of 183,800 yuan and goes up to 248,800 Chinese yuan. 

Dimensions & Design

The Great Tang from BYD measures 5302 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, 1800 mm in height, and 3,130 mm in wheelbase. Up front, it gets a full-width LED DRL bar, vertical headlamps, a closed-off grille, and a wide stance, which gives it an aggressive and modern look.

On the side, it features a long and straight bodyline, flush door handles, a large glass area, and a long wheelbase which ensures luxury and practicality. At the rear, there’s a performance badge, a clean tailgate, and a full-width LED taillight bar that makes the rear look quite wide, planted, and high-tech.

Space & Interior 

The cabin features a seating layout of 7 people with a configuration of 2-2-3 and a triple-screen setup for the driver, infotainment, and passenger, which creates a wraparound cockpit feel. It gets a 27-speaker premium sound system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

It also features a built-in refrigerator, fold-out tables, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, multi-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging pad, remote vehicle control via mobile application, NFC key, multiple airbags, ADAS, Flexible seating, and Multiple USB ports.

Powertrain & Performance 

The one with a BEV powertrain gets 130.15 kWh. The second-generation LPF blade battery is based on 1000-volt electrical architecture and supports megawatt-level ultra-fast charging that can go from 10% to 80% in just 5 minutes.

It is available with a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration and a double-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain, which generates 300 kW (402 hp) and 585 kW (784 hp) and gives a CLTC range of 910 km and 850 km, respectively.

The PHEV variant is available in two trims that are DM-i and DM-p; the first one gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor whose power output is 115 kW (154 hp) and 200 kW (268 hp).

It comes with a 66.48 kWh battery, which gives the all-electric range of 342 km. The second got the same engine but two electric motors whose power output is 400 kW (536 hp).

Suspension & Brake

It features the DiSus-A air suspension system; the front one gets a MacPherson strut that absorbs bumps and potholes effectively and maintains steering stability, and the rear features Independent Multi-Link improves ride comfort for rear passengers, and enhances stability at high speeds.

The front brakes are ventilated discs which handles most of the braking force, dissipates heat quickly and maintains performance during repeated braking; and rear brakes are discs that supports braking balance, works with stability systems, and handles parking and low-speed braking.
