1,113 HP PHEV Off-Road Beast: Geely's Land Rover Defender Rival Is Coming

Geely Galaxy, an automotive sub-brand under the Geely Auto Group, is all set to launch the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700, a plug-in hybrid electric off-road SUV, in the last quarter of 2026 for the domestic market, and then they will introduce it for the overseas market in 2027. As of now, there are no details about its price in China. Reports suggest that the carmaker will launch with a price between 300,000 and 450,000 yuan (42 to 63 lakh rupees).

On June 16, 2026, the manufacturer revealed many details about this upcoming off-road SUV. However, they are yet to reveal its uncamouflaged exterior and interior. The Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is domestically known as the Geely Galaxy Zhanjian 700, which is a production-ready model of the Galaxy Cruiser concept vehicle that they showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025.

The carmaker teased this upcoming off-road SUV in March 2026, as the rival of the Land Rover Defender, by releasing an official image of the vehicle in which it was highly camouflaged. Notably, it was already spotted testing on public roads in China in May 2026; we reported the same. This off-road SUV was spied testing uncamouflaged, but the one who spotted it shared the image of only rear, revealing what it boasts at the back.

Under the hood, it gets a petrol-powered internal combustion engine and three electric motors, among which one is mounted on the front axle and two are on the rear axle. On the rear axle, two motors are coupled with a fluid-coupled locking mechanism (viscous coupling) to ensure effective torque transfer between the right and left wheels. The combined power output of the hybrid system is 830 kW, which translates to 1,113 hp (1,129 PS).

The step-up makes it an off-road SUV all-wheel-drive configuration; interestingly, it can be turned electrically to rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, depending on need or use. The manufacturer has officially confirmed that the vehicle power-to-weight ratio is 288 kW per ton, meaning the kerb weight of this upcoming off-road SUV is 830 kW ÷ 230 kW × 1,000 kg, which translates to 2,882 kg.

Compared to Chery’s Jetour G700 and BYD’s YangWang U8, the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is relatively lighter by 181 kg and 708 kg, respectively. Meaning the upcoming off-road SUV under the banner of Geely Galaxy is highly competitive in terms of power-to-weight ratio, likely to give tough competition to both of these off-road sport utility vehicles in China.

The teased image shows on the roof it gets a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), which clearly indicates that this off-road SUV is equipped with G-ASD G-Pilot H5, an advanced driving assistant system from the manufacturer, which features navigation autopilot not only for highway cruising but also for city driving. It also comes with automated parking functions, which help in parking the car conveniently even in a compact area.

It also comes with some smart features, such as a dynamic control system that helps in avoiding the obstacle during a sudden lane change if driving at speeds up to 80 km/h, and crab-walking mode that helps the vehicle in moving diagonally. Also U-turn mode includes two features: the first is rear-wheel steering that moves the rear wheel opposite to the front during low-speed driving, and differential torque control that reverses relative to the other side.

Other notable smart features of this upcoming off-road SUV are tire blowout driving mode, which keeps the car stable in case of a tire blowout during off-roading, and continuous automatic obstacle avoidance, which detects obstacles and steers to avoid the collision. It also comes with an 800 mm wading depth, meaning this off-road SUV can drive through waterlogging up to 800 mm.
