A heavily camouflaged SUV from Hyundai has recently been spotted testing on Indian roads. It is yet to be disclosed what it is, because there’s no vehicle in the brand line and not even in the international market. It seems that the South Korean automobile maker is going to introduce something different in India, which is expected to be an all-electric SUV.
You may be wondering how we can see it is going to be an EV. It is because the spotted SUV gets flat surfaces, only possible in EVs, not with ICE cars and not even with hybrids. Not only this, its rear gets LED tail-lamps in a pixel pattern that are used only in the brand’s EV line-up, such as the IONIQ 5.
The spotting suggests that the upcoming EV from Hyundai is more likely to give tough competition to the Punch EV because it is also a compact SUV with an electric powertrain. Its size and design hint that its pricing in the Indian market may be ₹12 lakh and ₹15 lakh, and we are aware of the fact that the Tata’s EV is also around the same pricing.
What does its spotting reveal?
The Hyundai’s vehicle spotted on the public road in Tamil Nadu has the look of a ‘mini rugged SUV’, as it features boxy and upright proportions, a tall stance and flat surfaces. The details it’s spotting have revealed are the following:
- The wheel arches are flared, giving it a muscular and tough look, and it also enhances its SUV character.
- The rear gets pixel-pattern LED tail lamps, which not only makes it recognisable at night but also gives it a high-tech EV identity.
- It features flush-type door handles. It not only gives it a modern look but also improves aerodynamics, which helps in better efficiency.
- It comes with wheels that are made up of alloy featuring an aero-optimised design which helps with reducing air resistance and giving better range.
- Instead of a traditional mirror, it gets ORVMs with a camera. It helps in blind-spot monitoring and also makes parking convenient.
- On the roof, we get to see roof rails that not only add SUV characteristics but also help in carrying luggage.
What about its launch and interior features?
No details regarding the launch in the Indian market in India; media reports say that Hyundai may introduce it to the Indian market in the second half of 2026. As the vehicle was highly camouflaged, no details inside the cabin are visible. It is highly expected that its interior will be quite similar to its siblings.
The cabin is most likely equipped with high-tech and smart features. It is set to get two-digit screens, one for infotainment of passengers and another as a digital instrument cluster for drivers that shows all the driving data and navigation. It is set to get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting and others.
What to expect about its power stain and performance?
As it is certain that the spotted SUV is an EV and likely to rival the Punch EV. We can expect that it will also be offered with two LPF battery ranges, 30 kWh to 45 kWh, featuring the claimed range of 300 km to 450 km. It is expected to be equipped with a single motor with a front axle featuring a rear-wheel drive drivetrain to make it city friendly.
The transmission is set to be a single-speed automatic that features a linear driving experience on city roads as well as highways. We can expect that its top speed may be around 150 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h with a time of around 11 seconds. It may support up to 80 kWh, which may be around 30 minutes for 20-80% charging.
