Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director and CEO has officially confirmed that they are going to introduce the New-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLB EV in India; however, the carmaker hasn’t confirmed any date. We are expecting that the launch may take place by the last quarter of 2026 by importing a combined built unit from Europe.
The luxury automobile manufacturer unveiled this model to the global market in December 2025; the confirmation for the India launch came six months after that. As they will launch the model by importing as CBU, all the specifications and features are set to be the same as the one already sold in the European market. Let’s have a closer look.
Two drivetrain configurations and fast DC charging
Globally, this vehicle is available in two variants: the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4MATIC. The first one gets a permanently excited synchronous motor with single-speed automatic transmission on the rear axle, and the second one also has an asynchronous motor on the front axle. They both are equipped with an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and electrical architecture is 800 volts and can reach a maximum speed of 210 km/h.
The maximum power output and peak torque for the RWD variant are 272 hp and 335 Nm, respectively; its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration timing is 7.4 seconds, and it can run up to 631 km on WLTP conditions. On the other hand, the AWD trim generates the maximum power of 354 hp and peak torque of 515 Nm; to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes 5.5 seconds and gives the WLTP range of 615 km.
Both variants support DC chargers up to 320 kWh, which take 22 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging. Notably, with just the charge of 10 minutes, it adds the WLTP range of 260 km. Supports AC chargers up to 22 kW, which take only 4 hours 15 minutes for 10 to 100 percent charging, but with an 11 kW AC charger, it takes 8 hours 30 minutes.
Two different seating layout options and ample boot space

In the international market, it is available with a seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout and 7 individuals in a 2-3-2 arrangement. The five-seater has a boot space of 540 liters behind the second row, and the seven has only 480 liters back of the third row; they hold the big luggage. Both models come with a frunk (front trunk storage) of 127 liters to carry small items conventionally.
After folding the second row for five-seaters and both second and third rows for seven-seaters, the boot space expands to 1,715 liters. The length is 4,732 mm; the width is 1861 mm and 2029 mm without and with a mirror, respectively; and the height is 1689 mm. Its wheelbase is 2889 mm, and turning cycle is 11.2 meters. Notably, the length, width, and height for both 5-seat and 7-seat models are the same.
Three-screen dashboard and premium comfort

In the European market, inside it has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with a Mercedes-Benz logo, under which there’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster showing all the driving data and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard and another 14-inch touchscreen as an entertainment display for front-seating passengers.
Both front seats are heated and ventilated to ensure better comfort for the occupant; they are also electrically adjustable with a memory function so the driver and/or co-passenger may find the most comfortable seating or driving position conventionally. Other notable features are a wireless phone charging pad, four USB-C charging ports, and vehicle-to-load.
Two variants are anticipated and may give tough competition
Notably, they are yet to confirm that they will introduce only 5-seaters, 7-seaters, or both. We are expecting that they may come with both variants. Like its launch date, the price is also uncertain. Many reports are suggesting that the German carmaker’s Indian subsidiary will introduce this model with the ex-showroom price starting from ₹70 lakh and may go up to ₹85 lakh.
Following the launch in the Indian market, the New-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLB EV will compete with the BMW iX3, the Volvo EX40, the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Tesla Model Y, and the BYD Sealion 7.
